Haven: Season 5 Discussion (Spoilers)

Our troubled friends from Haven return for Season 5 this Thursday. The two part Season 4 finale airs that afternoon, if you need a refresher.

When we last saw our pals, things were quite the mess. Audrey has apparently reverted to her "true self", Duke is on death's door, and William has been sent back to wherever he comes from, only to have Mara insist on bringing him back.

What fresh new troubles await our intrepid citizens? Will Audrey ever return? Will any of this make sense?

Stay tuned!

Newbie questions:

-If Mara's so evil, why'd she go out of her way to create the troubles just to give other people superpowers and not figure out how to give them to herself?

-Who turned mara into audrey in the first place, and why can't they find that person and shut the witch back down?

-Seriously, how did SyFy manage to squeeze five seasons of storyline out of essentially a two-sentence short story plot ("Dead kid washes ashore...no one knows anything.)?

It seems to me that William and Mara are (at best) mischievous troublemakers from another dimension, messing with people, or maybe (at worst) experimenting on them (Haven is their "lab").

It seems to me that Mara was punished for her deeds by being separated from William, and having to help those they cursed over and over again throughout time.

The guy in the barn with her was like her parole officer or something...

So...she's like a genie or something? [RobinWilliams]PHENOMENAL COSMIC POWER!!...itty-bitty living space...[/RobinWilliams]

"And after that night, the monkeys never sewed again . . . ."

That may be the greatest line of dialogue I've ever heard.

Meanwhile, the big question: when did pot become legal in Maine?

Honestly, this isn't a very good show and the writing is all over the place. I only watch for the chemistry of the three leads. A lot of common sense questions aren't even worth asking for a show like this one.

Just assume that HAVEN operates on dream-logic and don't try to make sense of it.

And watch out for "thinnies" . . ..

Okay, I dvr'd and watched the season premiere...

...and...

...I'm deleting it from my schedule. This was getting bad last season but I've had enough.

I gotta ask. Otherwise all I can take from it is that from the total of three episodes I've seen of it Emily Rose is twice as entertaining as Mara as she ever was as Audrey.

Pretty much, yeah.

So Mara shoots the Sherriff and leaves him on the beach? Good thing there's no other people or cops in this town...

I wish they'd get a little clearer about this other world, and what their major malfunction is....

Just to avoid confusion . . .

Don't think Nathan has been the sheriff for at least a season now. I believe Dwight is in charge of Haven PD these days.

Right, they gave him back his badge, but as a regular detective, not the Chief.

Sorry about that!

Hey, it's been five months since the last season. My memory is fuzzy, too. So, Dave is from another dimension or something?

Dave was adopted, and Agent Howard was involved. In last seasons finale Dave was hiding the adoption records, and said that he had actually been to the other world before. That's how they knew he was the 4th person needed to open the portal.

Does this show get any better after the first season? I watched the first season a long time ago but didn't really like it, I had no idea it was still on TV.

^^ Depends on what you like. I call it an "Irwin Allen" show. You don't watch it because it's high quality, or because it makes sense, or because it's groundbreaking-- you watch it because it's got a good cast playing interesting interesting characters in far-out situations. Kind of like Falling Skies.

"And after that night, the monkeys never sewed again . . . ."

I loved that line. It had a kind of old-school creepiness that you don't often get these days.

I believe medicinal marijuana is now legal in Maine.

But it's such a fun kind of bad. :(

In fact, the season is kind of off to a rip-roaring start. Nathan has been shot, Audrey is still Mara (although there was the smallest of hints that Audrey is still there), Duke may be manifesting the Troubles of everyone his family has ever cured, Dwight is feeling betrayed for being kept out of the loop, Dave is in the hospital having bad dreams as Vince watches over him, Jennifer is missing, and there is no funding to rebuild the lighthouse yet again. And now we know that there are "thinnies" between the two dimensions and Jennifer may be locking them-- although that seems unlikely, since up until a short time ago she just thought of herself as a nut job who hears voices. It seems more likely that somebody else is running around putting magical padlocks on them. Agent Howard or one of his peers?

Actually, I'm wondering if we'll ever see William or Jennifer again, since we didn't see them in this episode. Are the actors signed on to return, does anyone know?

And it looked like the Edge is a regular now.

There aren't any official confirmations of this, but all evidence seems to point to the Jennifer actress not returning.

Edge is still billed as a guest star. They've only subtracted from the main cast credits (Nathan's father), never added.

I hear William is trapped in a hellish purgatory where he waits eternally to repair Maytag washers . . . .

Eric Balfour tweeted that the actress definitely wouldn't be returning and my program guide tells me that
A death strikes a hard blow to Duke.

Every time I see those commercials, I think, "That poor, poor soul...":( I thought that circle of Hell was only reserved for Gordon Jump, but, alas...
