Star Trek Continues: Episode 3...

I finally got around to seeing this and I LOVED it! Nostalgic, entertaining and so much fun. I connected with the characters, which is a first for me and fan film versions of the Enterprise crew. It really was like bumping into a secret "Mirror, Mirror" part 2. I'm buzzing with excitement. Fantastic!!

These keep getting better. They say they are finishing up the script now for Episode 4 and will be shooting around the end of the year.

This episode was the best one so far, and one of the best fan films ever. Has there been any word on whether or not they will build a TOS-style planet set? They seemed to be considering it at one point.

I really wish they would. Three bottle episodes in a row make it somewhat claustrophobic. They'd just need to keep changing the sky color and moving the rocks around, like back in the day, and they could use it over and over.

I guess you guys haven't factored in just how much $$$ it would take to build such a set...

Or the cost of the facility.

I can say that there will be some location shooting on the up-coming episodes . . .

It would likely be cheaper to just go shoot some stuff on location and then do a bit of CGI trickery. (The typical second moon in the sky type of thing.)

I'd actually like to see that. Especially if evokes "Arena" or "This Side of Paradise" at all.

Yes. The location shooting TOS did really lent to the credibility of setting. Also a strength of TOS was the creativity of using relatively simple solutions to convey a sense of the extraordinary.

Tru 'dat! Really it was a case that made Maurice's signature quote from Orson Welles about the absence of limitations being an enemy of art ring true. The transporter came about because they didn't have the budget to create fx of a shuttle docking and undocking. They found that beaming down a landing into a situation sped up the story telling and made the overall pacing of the show quicker.

Of course, the COULD have made a shuttlecraft mockup an episode 1 priority, made some stock shots of a model heading towards and back from a planet, and just used that. Couple quick cuts and you're basically in the same place story-wise for most scripts. :)

Location shooting is even better. No need to bother with a TOS-ish planet set that would look fake anyway. Just get them out of the ship for a change.

Yeah, but I think the transporter effect was one of the things that set TOS apart from previous sci-fi efforts. Of course, transporter troubles also became a bit of an overused plot device, but without it, we might not have had "Mirror, Mirror".

I hate to report guys that we have both the unicorn-dog creature AND the red spray painted tree in the forth-coming episode. Do to the negative reaction of these important parts of our story from you guys; I guess we will have to rewrite the script.

One practical problem with an indoor planet set will be the vast amount of lighting it would take to illuminate it and evenly light a sky backing. That's a HUGE expense that they may not wish to incur.
