So who's liking the 2014 TARDIS console room?

Like, a lot? "Robot of Sherwood" really drove it home for me, this is a really great set with tons of interesting details now.

I really like how everything looks like it has a purpose now. In the year or so we've had this set, there was an upper floor that was basically without purpose, and a lower floor that was really big and yet was only really seen when the Doctor needed to get something from the cupboard. Now, the upper floor has bookshelves, chairs, etc; the lower floor is similarly more decked out, and stuff scattered just about everywhere.

I also like how it looks lived in without looking like it's falling apart. If the 2005-9 console room was an old VW van (as the set designers described it) and the 2010-13 set was all fairy tale / Willy Wonka's factory, this one is the tenured professor's living room on campus. We saw it with a fresh coat of paint on moving day, and now it's years into the sole occupant's habitation. Great progression.

Thoughts?

I like how this console room (and how it was in the second half of series 7) looks. I especially like how it looks like an actual control room, and its console actually looks like it flys something. While I am fond of 9/10's and 11th's first console rooms, the console itself always looked like someone glued a bunch of random stuff on a mound of plastic and stuck a few screens on it. I liked the new console room bare with the 11th Doctor, but I like it even more now that it has added stuff on the different levels.

The only negative now is that the console room's time rotor doesn't move, and the 3 bars on top don't count because I think they always spin. I miss having something in the middle move up and down to signify that the TARDIS is in flight.

The Doctor should find some then, as they were in short supply as of the last refit. All of the IMO very disappointing interior sets from "Journey to the Center of the TARDIS" had no such affectations...

And I also miss the moving center bit (not the sex toy of the previous set), as I find it important that something denotes that the TARDIS is in fact moving. The circular things generally don't move when the ship isn't in flight, but have been seen to be moving when it MAY be stationary (see the beginning of "Into the Dalek"). The very center column of the seven in the time rotor does in fact move, it retracts into the ceiling when the TARDIS starts moving; however this has only been seen from a distance and never (yet) as the ship lands.

This is probably the only element I'm also missing; however I'm sure the people who make the show are happier for less squeaking and creaking from the actual prop as they're trying to shoot the show...

I like it. I like the books and blackboard. Reminds me of a professor's study. I don't like that he just types the location into the computer---a bit too much like a Google search. I miss all the mysterious buttons and levers that don't do anything.

I, too, very much like this new console room because it leans towards the feel of the study/library aspect of the McCoy/McGann console room. My only suggestion would be the addition of a wider, open space off the upper level walkway, creating more of a proper, comfortable place to lounge, read, drink tea, & eat Jelly Babies, without sitting right up against that railing. The 'more techy' console itself looks great. While I have enjoyed and appreciated all of the "new" Doctors, I did not care for the more fantasy inspired "Willy Wonka/Fairy Tale" console of 2010-2013.

I would like to see the time rotor back in rising & falling motion again, though. The spinning 'ceiling carousel' is out of the picture during close-ups on the characters, while the motion of the time rotor would be more easily seen in these shots, providing a visual indication of the TARDIS being in flight. I like the classic rhythmic rotor motion in the central column. For me, it is even a more central element to the console room than 'the round things' (which I also like)! :)

I've liked this basic console room design ever since it debuted in "The Snowman" -- it's the first console room in the new series that brings back the high-tech look from the original series. I never cared for the Eccleston/Tennant console room, and the first Smith console room was a garish nightmare. This console room is much nicer, and the new additions add character. I hope they keep this basic set intact for a long time to come.

Although I wouldn't mind more round things.

Best one since the reboot.

McGanns is still my favourite though...

Y'know, I like this one precisely because it reminds me of McGann's room. It's the chairs and bookcases, the fact that both rooms look like a study/rec room.

I guess I'm one of the few who really liked the kooky, off the wall design of Smith's first console room. Obviously it wouldn't have worked for every Doctor, but it just seemed like the perfect fit for the nutty Eleventh Doctor and the fairytale obsessed Amy. And it was just really fun to look at as well.

That said, I do think this new one is probably the overall best. It's a great mix of high-tech and alien, and the blue roundels set within the red lighting of the room really make it pop off the screen.

I really like the current console room but based on the promos I think there's some changes that will be made soon.

I like this console room a lot. However, it's not really that different this year. Sure, it's got bookshelves. Still like it, just don't think it's *that* different from last year.

I've liked all of the NuWho console rooms, and this somewhat tweaked version of the latest one is very welcome, what with its suitably firier colour and all. (I imagine that the colour scheme was what Twelve was talking about at the end of The Time Of The Doctor.)

I don't like it. The overall color scheme and the actual control console are okay, but it still needs a little more light or just better lighting...

...and more round things on the walls...

I love it. The bookshelves, the blackboards, the staircases, the circular upper level path with arches, everything. I agree that there should be movement in the time rotor, but I otherwise love the console.

Also, there should always be more round things.

No, they only spin while the TARDIS is in flight.

Personally, I liked the room better in "The Snowman"- I think it's lost that sense of of being a ship or place to work now, and instead it feels more like someone's den at home.

But it is the Doctor's home, and always has been. The original console room back in '63 had a similar blend of high-tech features and more homelike decorations. Later console rooms skimped more on the decor, but there was usually a coatrack, at least, to give it a "living room" touch.
