Yeoman Rand was one of the best characters of season one I thought and the easiest on the eyes! I've read that Grace was sexually abused by one of the suits who then fired her to keep her quiet or whatever! Do we know who this 'person' was or are there any rumours?

That's not the kind of thing I like to "rumor" about. Since Grace has never said, it would all be speculation.

Grace's exit from the show seems to not have been caused by that event she relates, even though from her perspective the two must seem connected. Internal memos from well before the event indicate there were concerns about how much she was costing (she had a contract) vs. how little they were using the character, and that they should not pick up her as a contract player after that her contract expired, but consider using her as a day player a la Nichelle. Why that didn't happen I don't know, but within two months of her final episode Roddenberry issued a memo suggesting bringing her back now and then.

    Thanks for that, Maurice.

I didn't recall that Roddenberry suggested bringing her back now and then.

    That's nice to hear.

For me, I liked Rand. Hell, I started this thread because of her. But the sense of loss from losing her character was magnified by the fact that, IMO, we lost her right after her best performance...in Miri...(cameo in Conscience of the King notwithstanding).

I'll say it again. Miri is just an ok episode that flirts with being unbearable because of the annoying kids, but I'll gladly watch it again for her performance. You can see her empathy with the children.

I get frustrated sometimes thinking of Grace Lee Whitney. She didn't seem to catch too many breaks in the Star Trek Universe. For her big comeback in TMP, Bob Wise seemed intent...(according to Whitney)...on making her look bad with no make up.

Didn't Roddenberry at one point claim that letting her go was one of the biggest mistakes he had made during TOS?

It's a shame that the women of the Enterprise didn't seem to have a lot of interaction.

Uhura having a "girlie moment" with Chapel when Chapel was going to beam down in "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" was one of the few times I can remember the Enterprise' 3 female leads having any interaction between each other.

Am I just tired or were there more?
