Work has begun!

...John Eaves (concept artist, probably most famously designer of the Enterprise-E) announced on Facebook that he's begun work on the next Star Trek movie, his eighth.

Meh. Eaves is a nice guy, but his ship designs all look the same, and they're far more applicable to late 24th century post-Nemesis TNG rather than early 23rd century TOS.
He clarified that he's working on props along with Andy Seagel. Ryan Church and Tim Flattery are designing the new ships.

I don't recall these kinds of announcements last time, so hopefully they've toned down their obsession with secrecy a bit.

I wonder what date Star Trek XIII will get.

The summer months are crowed as all hell.

Captain America 3: May 6
X-Men Apocalypse: May 27
Alice in Wonderland: Through the looking glass: May 27
Finding Dory: June 17
How to train your dragon 3: June 17
The Mummy: June 24
Independence day 2; July 1
Dr Strange: July 15
Ice Age 5: July 15
Bourne Legaxy 2: July 15
Planet of the Apes 3: July 29

No Worries, AllStar...

...just picked up a copy of "Alternate Reality Daily/Weekly/Monthly", and there was an article on this very subject...

...the plan is, if I was reading temporaly enough, to shift whatever movies planning to be out when Start Trek XIII is ready, to...yep, you guessed it!...Alternate Realities!...competition removed, nice big fat (worm)hole in the movie schedule for the summer...Voila!...

ADMINS, DELETE MY POSTS, QUICK!

Viacom lawyers are knocking at my door as we speak!

Too Late...

<sound of door being pounded on>

(In Klingon Accent)..."SPCTRE...we have knowledge of your presence"..."it would be better for you to open the door to this dwelling...NOW!!!"

(SPCTRE, disguising his voice as an Andorian)..."youse'll never take me alive, see?!!"...."yeah,see?!!!" (or maybe more like James Cagney, see?...)

(Viacom Lawyer, disguising his voice as a Viacom Laywer)..."we just want to talk, SPCTRE...just talk..."

no response

<sound of door breaking open...all manner of energy weapons being discharged...disjointed grunting and yelling...flashes...>

<eerily familiar voice> "...all right, open'er up..."

SPCTRE jerks awake, in a pool of sweat, sheets ripped,
bridge smashed, computers inoperative...leaps for technology to log on to TrekBBS to erase datalog before it is...

It may well come out in September for the franchises 50th anniversary.

But woohoo, another one. :D

August will be the best time, Just look at Guardians of the galaxy. the film made so much money because it came out at a time with no competition.

August still has a stigma of being the "dumping ground" for unsure movies. A bit unfair given in the past few years August releases have actually been pretty decent, a few of which have been the best of the summer, but it still exists all the same. It might actually be a good time to release Trek XIII, no competition and by having it out in August it allows theatres to do a special event for the anniversary in September, say XIII with a screening of TWOK or the remastered version of The Cage or something.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me remind you all that we live in an amazing age when a brand new Star Trek movie is being gifted to us and also that Zachary Quinto is incredibly hot.

In that order?

I want to see Harriet Mudd's personal warbird as designed by Church.

No stigma anymore. Guardians of the galaxy is heading to 300m at the box office USA. B v S is moving to march. So all this months are now becoming as lucrative as the May/June/July/November/December period.

If it's still in cinemas on Sept 8, and I haven't already seen it, I'll go and see it. A release during the last few weeks of summer holidays could maybe achieve that.

There is a big Star Trek-sized hole in May (May 13 and May 20) and one in June (June 3 and June 10). I doubt the Paramount and Bad Robot will release Star Trek any later than those dates. August is still considered the dumping grounds of summer movies, despite Guardians of the Galaxy. Marvel put that movie in that slot because it wasn't a proven commodity, and if it hadn't made money, it wouldn't be too unexpected. . . they got lucky that this summer was pretty bad for blockbusters. . .

I don't know how I feel about the thirteenth Star Trek movie being released on Friday 13th. In fact, it certainly doesn't bode well the last Trek movie to be released on Friday 13th was Nemesis...

In between captain america and x men Apocalypse...not a good idea.

Actually,it wouldn't surprised me if some "marketing genius" would think that ST13 on 5/13 is some sort of great PR strategy.

As for X-Men and Captain America. . . STID did nearly as well as X-Men:DoFP, domestically, and two superhero movies within 3 weeks of each other could cancel each other out. . .so my bet is still on May. . . June at the latest.

I think a Trek movie needs a bit more breathing room than your average blockbuster so I'm all for it being moved to August, March or November personally. No more May!
