Wiped Episode Discoveries

I don't know, hasn't Levine returned whatever he found, except for those cases where he was negotiating to try and take more stuff? I don't remember anyone ever saying that Levine used the missing episodes to influence the show in any way.

Hm, I used to think that Levine was a delusional bitter narcissistic douchebag picking fights with a professional, but I was clearly wrong- in fact he just happened to be picking fights with *another* delusional bitter narcissistic douchebag.

Nice to know that's cleared up.
I thought the same thing. Just when I thought this whole thing couldn't get anymore soapy. I guess I should've known better.

Well, he has spent the decades since acting like doing one good thing with your life entitles you to spend the rest of it being as terrible to other people as you like.

As one of his many "enemies"*, I find it hard to raise much sympathy for his current situation.

*Years ago I ventured the opinion that his attempt to get multiple fans around the world to recolour the Pertwee episodes that were (back then) only in B&W wasn't likely to succeed and had cancer and a painful death wished upon me in return. (It didn't succeed BTW.)

And how's your health?

Uhh, Ian Levine won't be doing much of anything for a while...

Twitter Account, August 24: If you have not already heard, I am in the hospital recovering from a major stroke. I am doing my best to recuperate and get my life back.
August 28: I don't believe a word Philip Morris has said. What happened to the wind blowing in the right direction? Someone is tweeting for me. I am sadly not better. Far from it. I will be (doing) poorly for several months.

EDIT: Ah, Allyn beat me to it.
That guy had a stroke and is still not shutting up about Philip Morris? He needs someone to tweet for him and uses that person to throw some more shit into Morris' direction? Good riddance.
Despite that I still wish Ian Levine the best and hope he recovers.

I don't blame Morris for being bitter after all the stuff people said about him and the abuse he had to suffer from parts of the fandom. Parts of the fandom suck, that's a fact, we all know it.

His opinion about Moffat isn't wrong, the show would be better without him, he ran out of ideas after series 5.

Regadless of how I might feel about Levine his illness is his own business and Morris didn't have the right to blab it to the world, so he's hardly a saint.

Plus there's his "Paul Nash" sock puppet Twitter account that he uses to say things he doesn't want attributed to himself. (Which gives rise to the funny sight of him having conversations with himself.)

Actually I think he makes some valid points, although he makes them somewhat harshly.

He makes some valid points but it comes across as a tantrum. Also, I guess that when someone becomes a mature adult, is succesful in their field, who clearly has a busy life with plenty to do, etc, you expect a certain level of maturity from them.

Most people with a life like Morris would just shrug their shoulders at his perceived drop in quality and move along because he'd have plenty of other things to do in his busy life to do than watch and complain about a show.

However, that doesn't seem to be the case for him. This sounds like a huge deal to him. Something he feels that is worthy to rant about. I guess I was just surprised.

Mr Awe

So it really is looking like negotiations between Morris and the BBC have broken down completely, judging by his ongoing behaviour across the internet today. You just don't act the way he's acting towards a group of people you're trying to do business with.

Insane as it seems at this point I doubt anything will happen until after Moffat has left, which won't be until at least 2016 since he's already talked abut his plans for next year's series. (And that's assuming that the new Showrunner meets with his approval.)

The only real losers in this situation are us. Morris clearly doesn't care about the money he could be making and the BBC makes far more money off New Who than it does from selling Original Series DVDs so it can afford to wait. Let's just hope whatever episodes he has are at least being preserved properly.

...since there's no chance of Moffat falling on his sword for the good of the series history it's going to be a long, long time before we see any of those episodes that are sitting in Morris' warehouse...

That's assuming the rumor is true. By now the participants in this thread should know better than to assume that about any rumor. We don't even know if there are any episodes sitting in his warehouse, let alone if he'd hold them hostage to get Moffat out, which frankly sounds like the most improbable and paranoid claim I've heard yet, and is therefore not remotely confirmed by Morris's expression of dislike for Moffat's writing style.

I mean, it's been pointed out before that the BBC doesn't make much money from the release of the missing episodes, not compared to what they make from the new show, so it's not as if such an ultimatum from Morris would put any meaningful economic pressure on the BBC, and it seems likely that he knows that. So he'd just be depriving the classic series' fans for the sake of a gambit that he would surely know had no chance of succeeding. It seems to me that if he really prefers the old-school Who to the new, it would be in his best interests to release any missing episodes he had so that they'd be out there for comparison.

^ It does kind of fit. The secrecy around it all. The slooooow time in supposedly determining what he had found. Etc. I'd commented on all of this while it was happening and it does fit, particularly with the new words written by Morris himself.

The fury that is evident behind the words really makes it feel like that his gambit to have Moffat removed, failed.

It's not proof, but it's smoke, and where there's smoke . . .

Mr Awe

Eh, Doctor Who is more popular than ever World Wide and at least as popular as ever in Britain. Seems to me, those facts go against the idea that Moffat has screwed up Doctor Who and "Has to go Now"

At least 15 million viewers (and potential customers) worldwide versus 50,000 copies of Web and Enemy sold. It was never really a contest.

Popularity ≠ Quality.

The difference between Morris and anyone else who is not a big fan of Moffat is that he thought he had a shot of doing something about it. (He didn't really but he thought he did.)

No argument here.

I just hope that whatever he has is safely stored until such time as he sees fit to release them.

Eh, I enjoy Moffat's Run, as much as RTD's, and I think there are fewer "MEH" episodes in Moffat's run. But, the point is, he's not "ruining" Doctor Who in the eyes of the Decision Makers, since popularity isn't suffering. As is debated repeatedly on TrekBBS, Quality is subjective, not Objective
