That they're a garbage investment, they're not likely to ever pay their existing creditors, anyone who buys the debt will likely never get it back, and existing creditors should sell off whatever they can to anyone still willing to take the risk.

Interesting. Didn't find the S&P rating system to include "Junk" in their descriptors.

It's not their official name, but this indicates ratings of BB and below are considered "junk":

    junk-rating.png

https://www.investopedia.com/articles/02/052202.asp#:~:text=Junk bonds have a lower, will default on the debt.

    From @wayoung 's linked article:

S&P Global on Feb. 23 placed Paramount Global on “credit watch negative.” The firm explained that it took the action after it introduced cash-flow metrics (along with existing leverage metrics) into its ratings methodology.

Previously, the firm had a “BBB-” rating on the company, its lowest investment-grade rating. With the change Wednesday, S&P now has a issuer credit rating on Paramount Global and its senior unsecured debt of of “BB+,” which is the “highest speculative-grade by market participants.” At the same time, S&P lowered its issue-level rating on Paramount Global’s junior subordinated debt to “BB-” from “BB” and its short-term rating to “B” from “A-3.”

It seems they've reduced Paramount Global's rating to a point just below "investment grade". It's not the worst junk rating, but it puts Paramount on notice that they'll want to take steps to improve, and soon.

Well maybe people would be more kind to them if they didn't keep writing Star Trek movies and make big announcements about them when they have no intention of filming anything.

Duh. If it wasn't obvious to you that I was in on the joke simply by what I posted, then I don't know what to say.

You must fall for the old "your socks are untied" trick. Unless you seriously thought that stating that Paramount is giving up on Star Trek 4 in order to focus on Star Trek 5 was meant to be a serious statement.

Sure. Whatever. Anything to avoid admitting that you fell for an April Fool's joke. And not even the one that was intended at that.

To be fair to FP, I fell for it.

Skipping 4 to skip straight to 5 is idiotic enough to be within Paramount’s wheelhouse when it comes to Trek.

I didn't actually click on it. I thought TT was posting it as legit.

I clicked on it. The title on the page does have [April Fool's Day] at the end of it.

As stated above, though, one might be forgiven for giving it a straight read -- it's not significantly out of line with the progression of increasingly-hard-to-believe announcements concerning "the NEW Star Trek 4" we've all been reading over the last several years.

I saw it on Twitter, and I giggled. They're sitting on enough scripts by now to be up to Star Trek 8 if they wanted.
