At the outbreak of the war with the Romulans, Earth found itself with literally no battle-capable starships. Pressed for time and resources, Starfleet started producing these: basically just essential equipment with a pressurized hull. Due to the sudden push for reactors and resources, these ships used relatively primitive reactors and weapon systems.

Depicted here is the NPC-19 "Interceptor". This vessel is one of the only battleships that survived the war in serviceable condition. The NPC-19 was in the same battle group as the famed NPC-18 Velocity.

    I really like this.

It fits in well with Spock's "Balance of Terror" narrative, as well as with ENT. I could see Archer and Trip being part of an Earth Starfleet and/or Coalition team charged with designing and building crude, mass-producible war-spacecraft to confront the Romulans. This design also allows for Earth to produce more NX-Alpha-like ships to serve as crude fighter-bomber-interceptors. ("First Flight")

How did you create this image?

    Glad you like it!

I modeled and rendered the image in 3ds Max

Nice design. I like the retro NASA style of it.

    Excellent!

Would love to see a shot of someone standing next to it to give it scale. The intentional lack of windows makes it difficult. :)

From the title, I was expecting to see a Romulan ship ;)

This ship is really well done. A good, basic warship with a little bit of a Phoenix look to it.

Ooh, I would not like to serve on that tin can in space!

Honestly, an awesome and terrifying design (for all sorts of reasons).

Looking at this design makes me think Earth got a little desperate in the war, to the point that they would slap warp engines on the back of an ICBM. If that's what you're trying to convey, bravo!! If not, my apologies, I meant no offense. Either way, I like it (though I like it more in a desperate war-design aspect).

The cool thing is I could imagine a group 100 years later restoring these to "keep them flying" much as WW2 aircraft are today.

Yes! This is exactly what I was trying to go for.
Earth got desperate for ships, and had to start pumping out these basic, but tough warships.

That is amazing dude. Such a simple design, But it works so well, reading the other comments, I agree and could see starfleet going to Archer, Trip, and Reed to design a cost effective battleship. Cheap to produce, but packs a punch!
