But the differences there are nothing compared to the different pronunciations of "Zeus".

Looking forward to the translated edition - my German just isn't good enough to attempt to read an entire novel :(

News about the story through an interview (in German) on TrekZone, with both authors.

Which of the buttons here in the new forum is the spoiler button?

I used google translate on the site - noted that the authors say that the English translation is due out at a similar point to the German edition. But no sign on Amazon yet ;(

I noticed that, too. As soon as they're up, I plan to pre-order all three.

Sometimes those online translation services do funny things. For example, I'm sure this thought wasn't originally expressed in German as the way it comes across from Google Translate:

Just curious... The interviewer asks if Adams is a "Haudrauf type like Kirk". Wikipedia didn't find anything for "Haudrauf"... is that actually a person, or is it just a German word that Google couldn't translate?

Haudrauf comes from the words "Hau" (punch) and "drauf" (onto something) and describes well.. Someone who basically phisically assaults someone else. It is a qolloquel term for "Schläger' which means batter, racket, thug puncher and strong-arm-man. You get the idea.

Oh and Haudrauf apparently is also the name of a character from How to Train Your Dragon:

I think that is pretty accurate.

Indeed, Google Translate does funny things. :)

What we meant: "His wife did not survive these wars, so more than ever (or more than anyone else) he just wants peace for himself and for the galaxy."

A "Haudrauf" is that dashing kind of character who acts/shoots/punches first and thinks later. It's a little bit derogatory. Clearly the interviewer liked Captain Picard more. ;)

Regarding these ebooks in English. They are not forgotten (!), however Cross Cult just wants to get the German edition published on time first. After that the English edition is on the schedule.

Thank you for the information! (Although I'm not really sure that word fits Kirk very well, then.)

That sounds a lot better! :)

    Awesome, can't wait! :D

That's odd, because that character's name in the original English is Stoick the Vast. A stoic is pretty much the opposite of a Haudrauf. Also, though he can be aggressive and impulsive, he also has a lot of wisdom and judgment. So I wonder why they gave him that name in translation.

    A hothead, then.

A hothead would be a "Hitzkopf". It's not exactly the same but I have to confess, I have a problem too in exactly defining a "Haudrauf". I guess a "Haudrauf" is more of a brawler (and not very bright, at least in my opinion). Whatever ... Captain Kirk is not really a "Haudrauf". I would rather call him a "Tatmensch" (go-getter), at least compared to Picard. (An Orc would be the typical "Haudrauf" I think. ;) )

By the way, Christian and I were guests at "FedCon 25" last weekend. We gave two preview readings and spread bookmarks, printed extracts and autograph cards. It was really fun!

So Marty McFly is a Hitskopf, and Biff Tannen is a Haudrauf? :p

I did some research and his full german name is Haudrauf der Stoische which would translate to Haudrauf the Stoic... That's like saying someone is an atheist who believes in god...
