My cat was taking a stroll on the sidewalk and birds were following him. Ever see that?

 

Probably trying to chase the cat off.... Sometimes birds will attack a predator that they recognize.

 

Found my cat sleeping on my bed. Do I just leave him there for the night and hope he doesn't wake up at 5 a.m.?

Yes, pretty often. The bluejays even dive bomb my neighbor's cat. He got one of their fledglings and they do not forget or forgive.
