In general, which of the following is your favorite type of TNG episode? A) Klingon (episodes which solely feature Worf without other Klingons do not count) B) Cardassian C) Romulan D) Borg E) Ferengi
Tough call. The Klingon ones were certainly the most involved & developed. The Borg ones weren't so much, but they did have a whole lot of potency, but I guess the ones I value the most are the Romulan & Cardassian ones By and large, the Cardassian episodes, what few of them there were, managed to instill a particularly gripping realism that had alluded TNG prior, but there's so few that really center around them. There's more that just use them, like Preemptive Strike or even Journey's End & Lower Decks. Chain of Command & The Wounded are really the only ones that focus on them The Romulans, on the other hand, have a good deal more, that are TNG's best, The Defector, The Enemy, Face of The Enemy, Unification, The Next Phase, & even Timescape. I'd say the Romulans got a more varied treatment. So I'd probably have to say they're my favorite
Really to say you favor a certain genre isn't quite fair. All of them have good and bad episodes. I'm a fan of good episodes. Usually the bad ones just feature their respective race for the sake of having a (race) episode rather than telling a good story.
^I'd agree with that. I think the mysterious element that surrounds the Romulans makes for more compelling storytelling. The Klingons are interesting, but you can get a good idea of who and what they are watching one or two episodes of TNG. The Romulans are much more complex and require watching several episodes to get a sense of their history and culture, as well as their current standing in Alpha Quadrant politics. Information about them comes in small doses. --Sran
Yeah this is a tough one but I get a chill whenever I see a Borg or a Borg ship. To have a physical reaction to this tells me all I need to know. Definitely Borg
Which series Borg? Can I not count Voyager Borg episodes? I'd go with Romulans just because they produced the best tension in TNG.
A) I don't really care for the TNG Klingon episodes as a rule. B) These are probably my favorite, but not necessarily because of the Cardassians. The Wounded is a fine episode, but I probably like it more for O'Brien than the actual Cardassians. Chain of Command is a fine serial for all the obvious reasons. Honorable mention to The Chase. C) Romulan episodes are pretty enjoyable, with The Defector, Data's Day, Face of the Enemy, and Unification being very enjoyable. D) Can't go wrong with The Best of Both Worlds. E) Eh, no thanks. Their portrayal was more entertaining in DS9, but I think as far as TNG goes, the best representation of the Ferengi comes in Future Imperfect.
Yes there is. There is a Ferengi ensign sitting at the con position who has no lines and basically doesn't do anything. That was my point. A Ferengi which doesn't do anything is, in my opinion, the best representation of one.
Except that Worf didn't date Deanna in the simulation. That happened only in the seventh season. --Sran
Part of the reason I personally enjoy TNG so much is because the episodes are varied. Each time the crew encounters a species, we learn more and more about it, and then sometimes we are left with loopholes/cliffhangers/etc. It keeps me coming back, even though I've already seen the episodes. I do have to say, even though this wasn't one of your options, I really enjoy the episodes that elaborate on Data. He is one of my favorite characters from TNG, and I find him quite adorable!
