I'm guessing that's from the City on the Edge of Never mission. I'll have to check that one out tomorrow. Time for me to leave Sol/Sirius for good anyway.

    Yeah, thats it exactly Anthony.

A REALLY fun one too, and you get to see the original enterprise.

The ground combat is pretty weak, although I have to say I do like the 3d space combat and wish it was a little closer to true 3d. As it stands now the ship can only go up at a roughly 80 degree angle compared to the plane, same with down. So either way to get to someone directly above or below you you have to spend about five minutes corkscrewing to get to them.

Now, I'm not sure what you mean about grouping with friends? I found it easy. You can group with them regardless of which instance they are in, switch to that instance, and if you are in a team when you go on a mission it puts you in the same instance. Its a lot easier then WoW, where if you're on a different server then a friend you have to either pay to move your character, or start from scratch.

I can't wait til they open up Alpha Centauri this week. I am badly in need of Mk 3 weapons, both ship and ground. Not to mention a boatload of exploration samples I've acquired.

Hey does anyone know if you can make a Trek XI Constitution in Star Trek Online?

Anthony, I got a bunch of Mk3 and 4 gear from the time travel mission. Including a very nice beam weapon from the reward at the end.

Hertzilla, I made a criuser, and while it did look connie esque, it didn't really look like the jj-prise to me.

As of the moment, you can't.

    there are only three options:
-1701-A refit (exactly as in the movies)
-Excalibur (Constitution model with modern Sovereign hull design and nacelles).
-Vesper (Constitution model with Excelsior hull design and nacelles)

Also, anyone who preordered from D2D (I think) gets to start with the vintage connie from TOS.

    Thanks.

So how does the ship editor/customization thing work?

You can change form and color of basically every part of the ship.
So you don't even have to stick with the three variants that are given for each class.

You'll have 5 to 7 different designs and color schemes for each part to choose from, but I don't think the TrekXI-look is among the options for the connie.

The TOS connie replaces the starting ship, so it isn't really a cruiser exactly.

I believe Cryptic has said that their online store will be available at launch so I think it's almost a given that new ship and creature parts will be there for purchase. I assume that some of the more obvious canon designs (Excelsior, Nebula, Ambassador etc) will be in there though there's no official confirmation of that yet.

For customization, there's four categories of parts (saucer, hull, pylons, nacelles) and three choices for each. So that's a lot of potential ship designs, but no so much that you won't see other people with the same combination.

this is one reason why i would prefer an option for a 2d layout for space battles. the main one, 3d just adds a layer of complexity but only for visuals and movement not actual gameplay. this is going to turn off any casual gamers they do get (casual gamers have trouble with camera controls in WoW. and in general, gamers have a trouble with "looking up." this game requires you to do that, often.)

yes, you can group with friends regardless of instance, but if they are in a full instance, it becomes a hassle to join them. WoWs use of distinct servers is only an issue for joining your friends at the start.

distinct servers also allow for players to form their own community. you get servers that are informally known for a schtick... you get the RP server, you get the server for Raiders, you get the server where a group of friends can all meet up at... you dont get that with the server layout in STO. we couldn't easily have an unoffical "trekbbs hang out location."

    Gamestop, actually.

D2D preorders get some kind of whizzbang personal shield gizmo.

Normally you'd take them to Memory Alpha but that's currently inaccessable, so the NPC for it is currently in the middle of Earth spacedock.

Also, here's my own trip to the Guardian:

What's confusing about that is that you use them to make items - I was simply giving them to a woman at the spacedock to no effect!

I'm warming on the space combat but the ground stuff is absolutely dire.

So another question for those who have the beta...

Do you get to design your bridge officers?
