Is YouTube shooting itself in the foot by redefining what content they deem "advertiser friendly"?
Isn't there the danger that YouTube might also harm some of their most successful "creators" by retroactively demonetizing content.

This story comes about every now and again. Each time they eventually realize that they're damaging themselves and the policy is quietly dropped.

Turned off the video once the guy started saying "censorship." It's not censorship when a private company decides you can't use their private infrastructure to make money. They aren't even saying you have to clean up your language, just that you can't have a dirty mouth and monetize your videos.

I think it's a stupid move, of course, but obviously within YT's rights.

I will point out once again that this is exactly what content consolidation gets you. There used to be a lot more platforms for online video. Now that YouTube pretty much controls that market (especially for anyone who wants to monetize), they can change the rules as much as they want and there's nothing users can do about it.

These days, aren't there plenty of hip and edgy companies that wouldn't mind having their advertising in front of more risque content?
