you're a droid, and I'm a noid?

You know, for reasons other than normal ones, I'm tempted to close this thread.

If there's one thing TNG never did all that well, it was combining Data with humour. Witness Generations as a case in point. Data was the classic straight man - making him something else was an act doomed to failure, however funny Spiner himself may be.

Data was never funny when he was supposed to be funny. But he could be hilarious when unintended. And you’re right, the writers never quite got that.

I think that the writers and Spiner knew when Data was being unintentionally funny...his humor was accidental to the character, but it was too consistent and focused-upon to be a happy accident to them. It's just that when they tried to make him overtly funny, it didn't work as well.

I know this is necroposting, but I took her 'noid as humanoid. "You're a robot, and I'm a human." I know it doesn't improve it much better, but it does explain the term.

But, yes, she's after your pizza, man.

Pretty much. The mascot was big back in the day and it was not difficult for anyone in the audience to potentially mistake "annoyed" as "a noid".

Case in point. "Ode To Spot" for my money, perhaps the most hilarious scene Star Trek ever produced

While we're dredging up Data's humor as a topic, I gotta go against the crew yet again, in Generations when he shoves Crusher overboard. Nobody is hurt. Frankly, that right there is even funnier than Worf going in the drink, cuz we ALL saw that one coming.

I'm fascinated by this that it thread was resurrected almost two decades later to explain it (I thought it was pretty obvious what it meant) and now months later someone still doesn't get it.
