Your Top 5 Games This Console Generation

I think this generation has amazing narrative powerhouses. I think I'd call this the narrative generation.

I'd call it the cinematic generation. I think some older gens had stronger narratives, particularly in the RPG genre, but they had it with very limited motion sprites and primitive models that left things to the imagination. Whereas this gen has photorealistic cinematic narratives but not necessarily stronger narratives as they often rely on genre cliches and quantity over quality.

True. There certainly have been more of an effort into making games feel more cinematic, and of making the cinematics feel more seemless from the gameplay, such as God of War for instance. I just feel that this is the generation where everything really came together.

I'm a little shocked to see Uncharted 4 on so many lists. I loved it, and it very narrowly missed a place on my list, but I thought I remembered most people's reactions to it being kind of mixed.

In terms of closure, I thought it was fairly good. It was a bit too long a game, in my mind, but I thought the execution was fairly good even though it never hit the high notes. I think the thing is, by the time the 4th one came along, I think despite the graphical overhaul and character redesigns, it still felt more or less dated, particularly when it came to collectables. I played the Tomb Raider reboot before I played Uncharted 4, and there were actually quite a few things I liked better seeing as they've tended to go back-and-forth on inspiration, and the collectables in Tomb Raider felt less random and more baked into the story and locations of the game along with descriptions. One thing I liked about Uncharted 4 was its more open-ended nature on some of the levels and the puzzles that relied on the jeep, and felt they should have emphasized the open exploration a bit more..

Wish you'd listed last gen... it would be (5) Fallout New Vegas, (4) Dead Rising 2, (3) Fallout 3, (2) Skyrim, and (1) Destiny. I put hundreds of hours into each. 2500+ into Destiny, though some of that was on PS4.

This gen, only games I played that much were Destiny and D2. And since my PS4 just bought a hole, I don't see myself picking up a new passion.
