Your To Be Read Pile/Wishlist

The What Are Your Reading thread inspired me to ask these questions

How large is your To Be Read pile? Where is it located - on your bedside table? On your ebook reader? Or do you have a whole bookcase full of books to be read? Etc,etc.

And how long is your wishlist of books you want to buy?

Photo of your TBR pile would be welcomed.

My TBR pile could fill a bookcase or two, and that's not including books on the Kindle I've purchased but not yet read. Some of the books are ones my husband had before we were married and I'd like to read one day, but many are books I've purchased myself but not yet read. I'm ashamed to say some have been sitting on the shelf for 20 years.

I have around 200 books on my shelves that I haven't read, another 30 or so on my Kindle and 20 audiobooks.

Here is a photo of some of them

I hope to get through the two left piles this year.

My wishlist on Amazon is around 600 books but I have probably already bought some of them.

I have piles of books on nearly every flat surface in my house, plus 5 bookshelves full and a couple of huge Tupperware containers full. I can't even begin to know how many I've read (and most likely forgotten much of the plot) and how many are waiting to be read. I go to the library book sales to pick up my old favorites before they disappear. AND I have a Kindle. I am thoroughly in love with books. My wishlist is for the next Jim Butcher book, mostly. Only a month to go.

I don't feel so bad now. ;) My to-read list is definitely at several hundred as well. I tend to have at least one non-fiction book on the go as well as a fiction book. If one of the books I'm reading is a book of essays, poetry or short stories I'll have more than one other book on the go as well. I don't like having two novels on the go at once, though, because my feeble little brain becomes muddled.

I would have had a lot more unread books on my shelves if I hadn't done a very savage weed when I moved house 6 years ago. I must have given away about 300 books including books that i determined i would probably never read.

I tend to have three or four books going at a time - one audio book, on ebook, one paper book and usually a book of short stories in my handbag.

I don't usually mix up characters in novels because if i am reading more than one novel i tend to make sure that they are very different genres. However recently I found myself reading Charlotte Badger, Buccaneer at the same time I was listening to THe Potato Factory. The two main female characters of these books were convicts transported to Tasmania so I did start to confuse them and I set the Charlotte book aside. i will read it mext week.

A have absolutely no idea how many books of mine I haven't read yet. On my Kindle are 342 'items' of which I know that I've read 73 (and 12 aren't books)...

I think I've read a couple of the smaller volumes in the stack in my living room:

And I know I haven't read all the books I packed into the cellar a couple of years ago, and there are some smaller stacks (piles!) beside/under my bed.

Plus: one ordered and one pre-ordered from Amazon...

I rarely make lists of books that I'd like to buy as that would be inviting even more chaos into my reading.
Although, sometimes I read about a book (say, in the what are you reading -thread) that I want to read but cant order right away -then it goes on a list that I keep in my phone. :rommie:

As I mentioned the other day in the "What Are You Reading?" thread, the World's Biggest Bookstore (which may or may not have been an accurate name) closed recently.

To give you an idea of the size, before it was a bookstore, it was a bowling alley.

Here's where I spent many a Sunday afternoon:

Pretty much everything in that photo that's behind the "New & Hot" sign was their science fiction and fantasy section. It was bigger than some entire bookstores I've been in. Graphic novels and manga occupied another set of shelves that's not quite visible in that photo, just behind the purple banner in the background.

Over the last month or so that it was open, everything in the store was 50% off, except for books that had already been on sale, which were 75% off. Here's my haul from that last month (apologies for the blurriness - my hands were a bit shaky yesterday when I took this, and I've shelved the books since taking this photo, so I can't retake it):

Those cost me about $600 or so. Many of them were books I'd previously picked up, considered buying and ultimately decided against, mostly because I felt I had already spent enough money that day. But at 50% off (or more), there was no such thing as "spent enough money."

An author friend of mine posted the following photo on Facebook yesterday, of the current state of the store:

*sigh*
