Your Holiday Spending

About $5.00 on toys for my cat. About $15.00 on a present for a friend. I didn't feel like microwaving a turkey TV dinner, so I ordered takeout (mix of Chinese and western food, so there's enough soup, sandwiches, dumplings, noodles, etc. to do for several meals).

I did get an assortment of stuff in the previous couple of weeks - additions to my penguin collection, including a beautiful carved wooden Christmas ornament. Since my tree is very small, it's the only ornament on it (along with a garland of beads).

I budgeted £500 for presents for the kids, another £150 went on family. But after works events, outfits, pantomime tickets, nativity costumes, Xmas nights out, travel, tree and decorations, and the extra trimmings, bird, deli meat treats and booze. Christmas has easily cost a grand. And that’s without a cheeseboard.

I’m normally tight at this time of year, and have achieved much the same for £100 in the past, but this year I just thought ‘fuck it’.

Worth it? No. Next year, I’m back to cheaping out.
