Your favourite kind of SF...

I like space adventure. Sadly, probably because of the high cost of special effects, we tend to get more shows like Fringe and Supernatural than shows like Star Trek.

Not that those shows are bad, but it would be nice if 50% of the shows were space adventure instead of maybe 5%

Space Opera, without a doubt.

Yep. This is me.

Bab 5, DS9, Farscape, Lost and even Firefly had it been given 3-5 years.........those are exactly what I want from a Sci-Fi show.

Fringe is really bringing it this season and if it maintains or improves in Season 3 will also be a good example of what I'm looking forward to watching in a Sci-Fi show.

I love giant technological machines in space und underground invisible or not like Dick's Valis and alien races like chtulu who like Bab 5 had crazy metaphysical philosophies of ancient wars and bizarre advanced civilizations etc. I could listen to that stuff all day.

Though I've watched shows like Eureka and Warehouse 13 and Fringe, my favorite kind of science fiction takes place in space. But even a show like Doctor Who doesn't quite fit the bill. I like ships and fighting scenes. Some of my Favorite Shows were Crusade, Babylon 5, Star Wars, Star Trek. Basically any show that involved some kind of space battle. A favorite line came from Crusade "Clear my Sky" and fighters proceeded to destoy ships from the captains view point.

I love space adventures, having grown up on Star Wars and Star Trek, but lately I've found myself interested in the subtle SF and fantasy stories with down-to-Earth settings of the type found in many Ray Bradbury stories, such as the ones in The October Country. Yes, I know Bradbury wrote space adventures too.

If I was asked for a preference between Soft SF and Hard SF, I would choose a middle ground between the two. Stories for me do not have to be scientifically accurate, but I appreciate it when they are, and I roll my eyes when people claim realistic SF would have to be boring.

If I was asked to choose between optimistic technology-is-inherently-good stories (like Star Trek or the works of Asimov) or pessimistic technology-is-inherently-dangerous stories (like Frankenstein or Terminator or the works of Michael Crichton) I would say it depends on my mood. The optimistic stories more closely reflect my worldview, but dystopian post-apocalyptic futures can be lots of fun.

If I was asked to choose between written SF and filmed SF, I would say written, but I have to confess that I am not all that well-read in SF. I'm working on it.

I've read a lot of SF, and I still prefer a galaxy spanning saga, though I've also read a lot ofthe "new wave" of the 60s and 70s and "cyberpunk" in the 90s. The space saga is a sadly underused milieu in film making.

My favourite kind of SF is probably Cyberpunk. The original stuff, from the 80s and early 90s. I still buy everything that William Gibson and Bruce Sterling publish.

I also enjoy SF mixed with hard-boiled/noir crime fiction. I really enjoyed The Yiddish Policemen's Union, for example.

Beyond that, I don't have any real preference. Oddly enough, despite being a professional historian, I don't have any strong feelings about alternate history one way or another.

I suppose my favourite would be science fantasy with space adventure a close second.

Hard SF, Military SF, Alternate History, Space Opera, Sociological SF, Near future, and Far future. I like Superheroes too.

Hard SF, particularly transhumanist stuff, yet also classic rockets-and-shit like Clarke and Heinlein. I don't read nearly enough of any, though.
