Everyone, it's the day after Thanksgiving here in the US and that means Christmas is a month away! Aside from the shopping, it's time for those old TV specials! This morning, I'm watching a few on a local station, including one I haven't seen in many years. I know I haven't seen the Fat Albert Christmas Special in years...

What are your favorites?

Chuck Jones for the win, Temis. :D

One question came up while I was watching the Mr. Magoo Christmas special... how is he allowed to drive if he can't even see?!

Eh. Some of the movies are charming, like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, but the constant, abrupt commerical breaks always seem obnoxious and annoying. Thus, I'll just be watching a few favorites on DVD, like Patrick Stewart's A Christmas Carol.

A Charlie Brown Christmas
A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott version)
Christmas Eve on Sesame Street
How the Grinch Stole Christmas

I like Rudolph, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Great childhood memories!

For the more modern stories, our family really likes Olive, the Other Reindeer.

It's a Wonderful Life
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Charlie Brown Christmas
Miracle on 34th Street (original)
A Christmas Carol (with Alistair Sim)

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (original, of course)
A Charlie Brown Christmas
A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott version, though I also like the Sim b&w too)
Bad Santa
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

We have the Rankin-Bass specials and rotate them each year. Also, every year my family and I like to watch the Christmas episodes of our favorite TV shows. Twilight Zone Night of the Meek and Happy Days Season 2 Christmas episode always make the cut.

Movies:
Die Hard
The Bishop's Wife
Lethal Weapon
Ghostbusters
OHMSS
Scrooged
Gremlins
Die Hard 2

TV:
A Christmas Carol (Patrick Stewart, though the BBC's 1976 version is the best, but not available on DVD, AFAIK)
Blackadder's Christmas Carol
Father Ted: A Christmassy Ted
The Goodies And The Beanstalk
the various Dr Who Xmas specials

Apparently the BBC 70s version of A Christmas Carol, with Michael Hordern, *is* on DVD - but only in Holland!

Rudolf, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Frosty, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Charlie Brown Christmas. As a kid I remember they all came on nearly back to back. They played on CBS with the 'Special' twisting logo before each show and were always sponsored by York Peppermint Patties and Mounds/Almond Joy.

My dad's favorite was "It's a Wonderful Life". My Mother's was "Miracle on 34th Street".

My wife's favorite is "White Christmas". My son loves Elmo's Holiday Special. My favorite is George C. Scott's "A Christmas Carol".

And we all love Ralphie in "A Christmas Story". We have a tradition of ordering Chinese food on Christmas Eve because of that movie. :)

I love all of those. We usually also watch Christmas Vacation and Scrooged.
