Your birthday cake

It's my birthday in February. I've instructed my husband (hints don't work) that I'll be expecting a cake, with icing and decorations, and a couple of bottles of champagne tlo celebrate. It's also my friend's birthday a week later, so he can have a share, too. :)

No fair tempting the mods like this....

(bribery will get you everywhere though :p)

It just dawned on me that this year, I'll be having my 5th anniversary AND I'll be turning ( :scream: ) forty.

There better be cake involved, damn it.
I'm turning 40 this year, too. And I will have a birthday party this year. (I know this because I'm the one planning it. ;) ) And the party will include a birthday cake, one as awesome as I can get away with.

When I was a kid, my mom made me a cheesecake every year. I love cheesecake. :)

Mmm.. cake.

My birthday is coming up. Given the complexities of the situation going forward, I foresee having to buy a prefab cake this year.

'cause there is NO WAY in hell I will celebrate without a cake. At all ever. Death first.

I haven't had a birthday cake in YEARS. I'd be happy with whatever I got.

Although....part of me REALLY wants this:

Wow ... for the first time in my life, I'm suffering from cake envy ...

My favorite growing up, golden cake with fudge frosting. These days I buy a two-pack of Hostess cupcakes and stick a candle in one.

+1

I can't actually remember when I last had a birthday cake.

I do remember that my mother used to make me an absolutely fab birthday cake when I was young. It was a moist chocolate cake, with chocolate ganache in the middle, and chocolate fudge icing on top.

Mmm...do you have the recipe? :)

Otherwise, just order a Sachertorte. You know you want one.

My birthday was a little over a week ago, and my wife made me this cake from one of Nigella Lawson's cookbooks:

Those are malted milk balls on the top. It was delicious and fun to eat. :)
