Your advice please for ripping scenes from a DVD...

Hey everyone. For a few years now I've been wanting to put together some montages for TNG (i.e. clips from various episodes set to a certain song). I'm not looking to make anything very complicated (think stuff you see on YouTube).

I really don't know much about it but I figure I need a program that can rip scenes from a DVD and allow me to edit scenes together and put music to it. I'd really appreciate any suggestions and input you may have.

I have Windows Movie Maker (I'm sure it ain't that great though) but I lack the ability to rip scenes from a DVD.

Thanks in advance.

Here's the page from SourceForge with a bunch of DVD software that will help you out.

Remember, it's only legal to make back-ups of dvds you own as covered in "Fair Use" under the United States copyright law. Thus, making it perfectly legal.

I prefer to use Dvd Decrypter, as that's what I've been using for years, but there are a lot more options out there now so you can read up on the details of the programs and see which one fits your needs and ease of use.

Thanks - that last link really helped!

I do have a follow-up question - when I rip the files and move them over to Windows Movie Maker, I've noticed that the original file (a TNG episode originally in 4x3 aspect ratio) has been automatically modified to widescreen (and thus, distorted). Is there anyway I can correct this?

EDIT - nevermind - I managed to find a way to do it using some kind of 'raw' option within DVD Decrypter. Thanks again guys - this is exactly what I was looking for!
