CW Developing ‘Young Justice’ TV Series for 2015?

According to Bleeding Cool, The CW – home of DC/WB’s superhero TV series like Arrow and Smallville - could be getting a Young Justice TV show in 2015. For those not in the know: Young Justice is exactly what the title would suggest: a team made up of younger versions of the heroes in the Justice League. Superboy, Batman’s sidekick Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad – you get the idea.

Fanboys will likely recoil at the additional mention by BC that this Young Justice series would be “live action teen drama/romance…with a superhero twist.” The notion of Young Justice being in any way comparable to the network’s teen soap opera dramas (and all the stigma that goes with) will not make a good initial impression. However, the added note that the series will be based on the games, comics and (most importantly) hit cartoon series IS a good sign.

Yes please! :bolian: I'd rather see a YJ live action series than The Flash to be honest. :borg:

And yes, with Superboy and Miss Martian as the leads of The Team…

YES! :D

I'd rather see them bring back the animated version. Although I guess the production team has moved on. I think Greg Weisman is on Star Wars: Rebels now.

This sounds like a good fit for the CW. I wonder if they'll tie it into Arrow and their upcoming Flash series, assuming that makes it past the pilot.

The cartoon was magnificent, and I watched the whole thing. I found the cartoon to be edgy, and they seemed to be targeting a mature audience. If they retain that edginess, and avoid diluting or Smallville-izing it, or to say it another way, if they only improve on the cartoon, then I'll stay tuned. If it turns into a Smallville-style borefest, then I'm gonna bail pretty quickly. Arrow is way better than Smallville, and it's edgy, so it's not like the know-how isn't available. My concern is that if they try to make something like Arrow but aimed at a younger crowd with less mature sensibilities, then that's probably not going to be anything that I'll be interested in.

^ Well said.

Yeah, and the main reason I'm interested in Rebels honestly.

Before Arrow I wouldn't have known what to think, but now? Oh my yes... and explicitly basing it on the cartoon makes me even more interested. Bring it on! :D

I don't think they'll have the budget to do this "justice" in live action. Bring back the animated show.

As a huge fan of the animated series, I'm definitely very interested in this.

If they could balance the action of ARROW with the FX of SMALLVILLE it could be good. I don't expect it to be like the cartoon and I don't expect it to have all the big JL players either...in person.

Superboy/Superman ? No Superman at all. UGH.
Miss Martian/Martian Manhunter? Yes. :bolian:
Wally West/Flash-Barry Allen? I hope so. ;)
Aqualad/Aquaman? Yes. :bolian:
Robin(Dick Grayson)/Batman? No Batman.
Artemis Crock/Green Arrow? Yes! This should happen. :mallory: + Roy eventually Arsenal! :D

YJ would be epic if it wasn't for egos which I hope are gone in the DC/WB/CW.

I really hope they use Tim Drake as Robin and have him hook up with Conner, I've been shipping them for years.:luvlove:

No way, I have a feeling this show will not be directly connected to Arrow and Flash. It would make more sense not to have Arrow/Flash sidekicks to let the show stand on its own, otherwise the audience would constantly cry for crossovers and the other two shows would lose characters they could use themselves.

I hope they don't use too many characters, Superboy, Robin (Tim Drake), Miss Martian, Aqualad and Zatanna.

No one cares about Tim Drake. Shipping Conner and his hand would be more exciting.

If you are going to boil down the best elements of the original YJ it would be Superboy, Miss Martian, Aqualad and maybe Blue Beetle and Impluse.

Must be why he lost his own book and is no longer even considered an "official" robin because he is such a "great character'.

Sure, every great character has and keeps his or her own until the greatness evaluation bord finds them not great and cancels it, makes sense.

And the only reason Tim was de-Robined was because the morons at DC tried to squeeze Batman's entire history into 5 years, everyone knows that, he's still awesome and I want my Conner/Tim relationship, dammit.:klingon:

Then again, a lot of people consider Wally West the better Flash, and look where he sits now.

I disagree. The fact that the current book is still being published with Barry shows that clearly was never the case or rather that those had no preference or had a preference for Barry were always the majority.

The fact that you don't have a movement like HEAT in the 90s with GL shows that there is no base of support for Wally like you believe.

So if he is a great character? Where are his fans? Because when DC de-Robined him or when they retconned out Spoiler or Cassandra Cain, other than grumbling on message boards no one cared . People who complain about this are frankly the same people who view NuTrek as religious heresy.

That doesn't follow. The decisions aren't made by fan vote, but by the creative and editorial staff at DC. It's their preferences that shape the creative decisions -- and indeed I gather many of DC's decisions over the past few years have been very unpopular with audiences and critics.

The thing is, the people making these decisions started out as comics fans in their childhood or teens and then became comics writers and editors in their 30s or so, and once they get into the position to make the creative decisions, they tend to bring back the characters and storytelling approaches that they grew up with in their childhood. And that's why so much of what's happened in comics over the past few decades has been about turning back the clock to the way things were 20-25 years earlier -- bringing back dead characters, re-establishing the classic lineups of teams, getting rid of the multiverse, bringing back the multiverse, etc. And sooner or later the next generation will come along and recapitulate the next set of changes, and so on.
