You own TNG movie

Wasn't sure what to title this thread. I've seen that a lot of people think that the TNG movies were...less than impressive. And for varying reasons, of course. And I'm sure some people have had ideas for how to one-up them. This is basically a thread for those ideas. And even if, like me, you like the TNG movies feel free to chime in if you have an idea or think it would be fun to toss in your two cents.

You have an unlimited budget, you can bring back any actor/character/plot element from the TV show, you name it. It just has to be TNG.

Me no own TNG movie.

You mean "your own", not "you own".

Oughta check the spelling of your subject line before pressing Submit New Thread. ;)

Thank you for pointing out that I made a typo that I didn't realize I was making at the time. I noticed.

Yeah, the thread title typo was totally worth mentioning and posting about.

I'd deliberately avoid using any past characters or ideas. The endless self-reference gets old, with the same species, the same character melodrama, the same political storylines and the same space battles.

One element I would reuse would be from ST:TMP: Mystery. Have an unknown element that will be revealed at the end. Other than that, no bad guys, no right/wrong simplicity, no setting every scene in a confined space; no shit, in other words.

I really wanted a movie that featured Q. I've racked my brain trying to come up with a storyline worthy of him and even though I never could, I still believe one would have been possible. I consider him to have a flawless record on The Next Generation (and unlike many, didn't find his DS9 appearance and Voyager guest spots very offensive either), so I believe that the character could have been an asset to a big screen outing as well.

Some may believe all possible good storylines for him were exhausted on TV, so he'd be stale onscreen, but he kept being brought back on TV and (in my opinion) never failed to be an effective catalyst for intriguing and entertaining stories. That's why I have faith that with the right director/writers/producers in control, he could have done the same in a movie. I just can't come up with the right pitch. The only idea I have is that he could be introduced through a Starfleet conference explaining his backstory (probably best not to open the movie with that, since it would basically be exposition), which would provide the opportunity for some nice cameos since both Janeway and Sisko mentioned being at such a conference.

A shame Paramount will never adapt any of the Trek novels, because Peter David's Q-Squared would have made a marvelous film. Granted, there's a bit of fanwank when he casts a discombobulated Q as the entity which empowers Gary Mitchell and Elizabeth Dehner in WNMHGB, but otherwise it's really an epic tour-de-force, and you can just hear the actors' voices coming off the page.

They'd have to recast now to do Q-in-Law. I'd have loved to see that one onscreen... Lwaxana beating the crap out of Q would've been sweet!

I'd bring back a mix of TNG & DS9 characters, and have an outside threat against the Dominion in the Gamma Quadrant, Odo comin' to Captain Kira on DS9 for help, Will Riker & the Titan goin' to check it out, and have a literal baton passed on the bridge of the Defiant from Will to Kira at the end when the credits roll, just for shits & giggles.

Save the reviewers from havin' to make the metaphor, ya know.
