With the riveting success of Discovery's poll thread (I'm mostly kidding but it was fun), let's spend the next however long musing over how much Strange New Worlds we'll get in the final telling, too.

Is it an exercise in deep thinking? No. Is it even all that interesting a notion? Arguable. But here we are. I did that poll, so I might as well do them both.

I don't normally post in this forum, but I guessed five for SNW.

I'm not here much, either. Then again, I'm only around in spurts in general - basically when the live-action shows are here, I'm here, and otherwise it's kind of a weekly visit at most.

Three.

I think Paramount will belatedly realise that adding yet another streaming service to a crowded landscape wasn't the best idea, and a franchise like Trek which has quite restricted appeal is not the best thing to centre it around. I can see them very much pulling back on Trek content, if not ending it altogether.

I hope I'm wrong but the abrupt end of Disco has me concerned.

I guessed three. Between the idea to have PIC be three seasons and the abrupt cancellation of DSC because of streaming revenue issues, I don’t see any future Trek shows (if they continue to make any at all) to last more than 3 years. One or two years is too short a timespan for the money invested in a particular show’s production, but more than three seasons and they run the risk of running out of ideas for where to take the show if it’s ultimately a failure. DSc could have been three seasons and it would have been fine. But the fourth season felt unnecessary, and I have no illusions that the fifth will just be more of the same.

For SNW specifically, it seems like they were planning on starting to introduce more legacy characters and phasing out the ones they started with. I can see Kirk, McCoy, Sulu and Scotty coming in next season, and the immediate/gradual elimination of Pike, Una, M’Benga, La’an and Ortegas.

I'm going to say 4. I think it's a great show, and it seems very popular and well-received in general, but I think penny-pinching will prevail and it will get 4 good seasons (which honestly, in the streaming era, is a good run...especially for an expensive sci-fi show).

I'm going to go 6 just because that's how many years ahead of TOS they set the start of this show, and I hope Akiva gets to tell all the stories he wants.
(Plus if they're going for around 60 episodes that would be 60 episodes- and I base that on the fact they're effectively ending Star Trek Discovery with 65 episodes - in SNW's case, that would equate to 6 seasons total.)

All the above said, since I really love this show, I'll be sweating each renewal announcement going forward until they finally do decide to drop the curtain on Strange New Worlds.
