Ummmm...yeah
Much of the hatred for Shatner from the STAR TREK fans is because he looked them straight in the eyes and told them 'to get a life'. The image of TREK fandom being populated by 35year old men who are still living at home playing their XBOX360s is not just limited to Shatner; thats the image of Trek fans by most of the rest of the world's population. Its an image that, sadly, is still as clear as it was 20 years ago (except it was Ninetindo 64)....
Shatner is also hated by some because he had the guts, 40 years ago, to shove the lower rung actors into the backround, where all of them belonged, and fight to be front and center in the camera, even going so far as stealing other people's lines (Something that other stars of TV shows from those days, and these days, did and will always do). Homerun shatner!
So when any other TREK actor comes along and voices his opinion about the TREK they were on and how bad it was, Robert Beltran specifically, some in the fanbase attack them. But everything Beltran says about that show is pretty much discussed on the board all the time as being...spot on. Lack of writing..lack of continuity...ect ect ect...he is right. IMO.
Now we have Bakula airing some of his opinions about his TREK, and some of the fans cant wait to get on his case.
Me? I think he is dead on with what he is saying just as Beltran was 100% right about everything he said about that show...and Shatner has told it like it is from day one...
I can handle the truth. Star Trek, all of it, has been far from perfect. If we can sit here and bicker back and forth, then they too, since they were there, can launch their verbal opinions. The truth hurts sometimes....and I love freedom of speech.
