You Aren't Really A Music Fan If…

Just read this on MSN...
http://entertainment.uk.msn.com/music/features/gallery.aspx?cp-documentid=7045588&GT1=61501

I agree with most of it but I thought the thing about ipod headphones was wrong.

Any thoughts? What do you score?

Most of it makes sense. I didn't know how that one person was, a music reviewer I assume, but I don't read to music reviews so it doesn't matter to me.

But I agree with the iPod headphone thing. You just shelled out possibly hundreds of dollars to have your music at your finger tips and listen to way more than just 1 cd at a given time, but yet your ok with the shitty earbuds that comes with it?

I'm not saying you have to go out and blow $300 on Bose noise cancelor headphones, but get yourself a decent pair.

You probably shouldn't listen to MP3's on those fancy headphones if you're so worried about sonic quality. I suppose only pure 1:1 digital rips would be sensible.

Well, there is of course considerable debate over the sound quality of digital files like MP3 and AAC, but come on, those piddly liddle earbuds you get with iPods? Those are so far down the totem pole, it's hilarious. I mean, if you rip at a high enough bitrate, you can get files that sound pretty darn good (I rip at 256Kbps AAC, and it sounds just fine to me), but those earbuds are not anywhere even CLOSE to suitable for longterm use.

Good lord I hate earbuds! How do you even get them to stay in place?

Not a huge music fan, but I make it a point to always rip my cds at the highest bitrate. And did some diggign online for headphone reviews and came up with a little Koss portable 'strap over the head' model. Sounds great!

I've never read reviews for headphone honestly, I just go to stores that have them set up to listen to and just go through them 1 by 1 and play some jazz music, since that has the broadest range usually. But I'm strange like that, I own 14 pairs of headphones not counting all those iPod earplugs or various other ones that have come with players.

My main set are technique's studio moniters, they're gigantic though, so I don't really travel with them. I don't like noise cancelers, besides the batteries that the active ones require and the high price on them in general, I don't like the feeling that I'm getting my brain sucked out.

I have earbuds that go down into the canal and fill up the whole thing like earplugs. I love em for my bike cause they block the sound of the engine, great for planes too.

Generally I only listen to music on my separates at home though, and I don't use mp3s or go through my sound card at all, CDs and vinyl all the way.

I don't claim to be any kind of music expert, though I certainly wouldn't use the earphones that came with my iPod.

I use a pair of Sennheiser PMX-60's while out and about and a pair of their HD-205's at home. I also have a pair of old Beyer Dynamic DT231's.

However, Jo Wiley really doesn't have any idea what she's waffling on about. I remember years ago when Iggy Pop appeared on Deep Space 9, they showed a clip of his appearance on a television show she presented and some guy on there said "they" should stop making "films" like Star Trek and make films that "mean something to people" as she nodded along.

I do remember the last time I bought a CD but that's only because the Battlestar Galactica soundtracks aren't on iTunes or Amazon.co.uk. I would never buy a Leona Lewis CD, though.

I don't care what headphones I use. I don't have good enough hearing to differentiate between them at all. The only problem I have with most devices is how loud the music comes out. I have to use an inline volume control to turn it down, because they get so loud. I can't even imagine listening to something that you could hear from a few inches away let alone like some where you can hear their headphones across the room.

Well, in this case I'm talking about tiny portable headsets. Not many places have these out where you can demo them. So I went with what had the most positive comments on various audio websites.

For home use, I have a pair of $80 Sony cans. They're okay, nothing really spectacular as I wasn't really aware of quality differences way back when when I bought these.

While I'm more or less indifferent to most of the list, I do strongly agree with this one:

"On your Facebook profile you describe your music taste as 'I like a bit of everything really!!!'"

^ yeah, I see that a lot. It's usually girls, the sort when talking to you ask what music they like and its always "or all sorts"

I would agree with the Jo Whiley one though. Can't stand the bint. Just rest on her laurels thinking she soley discoverd Nirvana just by booking them on the Word

Music that doesn't feature profanity or vile concepts.
There are some great somgs with profanity like Lennon's 'working class Hero' and The Liberines' 'what a waster'.
A lot of music with real balls has swearing.
'Clean music' sounds like something from '1984' or 'brave new world'.
