Searching the interwebs reveals that this phrase means amazing or incredible. However, on the DVD commentary, someone says that they didn't want to say what it meant because their daughter may listen to the commentary.

Any Russian speakers who would like to clarify? What does "yomayo" mean? Something akin to "Holy st"?

Chekov pronounced it "ya mayor," not "yomayo."

A non-Cyrillic spelling could go: "Ja, major!" as in German, and mean "Yes, sir!"

As I understand it, the Cyrillic spelling is Ё моё, it doesn't translate easily into English, it's quite a versatile exclamation, and one which isn't exactly polite. Your guess is probably as good as any.

I saw a translation that said it means "holy moley"!!! Like Captain Marvel or given the source Billy Batson, would say!!

I don't know, but it seems like a darn cute moment. Surely cherub-faced Chekov with his golden curls wouldn't shout an expletive in front of senior officers? And if he did, why does that make me find him more endearing?

I'm still stuck on the part when Pike asks him to make the ship wide announcement and Chekov says, "Yes sir xxx xxx" . I brought it up once before and was told he is saying "Yes sir, happy to"...and that is what the captions say. Only it doesnt sound like that to me.

Anyone know about the closed captioning process? Do they get a script directly from official sources or what? (Yes, i am anal, and this has been driving me INSANE, yes, i know, short drive)

Kinda sounded like 'rr(h)epetoo' is one was to spell it phonetically. I'd be happy to think it's just him saying 'happy to'. Sounds fairly close.

Rapido would be "rrah-pee-do". What Chekov said actually sounded like "happy to" to me, with a strong "h" and a chipped pronounce.

It's "happy to" in the script, as well.

I can't find that particular bit anywhere online, though, so I guess I'll have to crack open the DVD when I get a few uninterrupted minutes and listen for myself.

I think this was probably a joke - pretending to know what it means and saying it's rude. Can you remember who said it?

Interesting discussion, you know I always wondered why check off said "rapido", then I watched the movie with subtitles during thanksgiving and the scene came up and it said "happy to" and I didn't even think about it 'till now but it fits with his accent.

Also I am glad that M' provided us with those great explaining links on the naughty "Ё моё" which makes sense now why in the commentary they didn't want explain its meaning. TrekBBS is a great forum for us Trek geeks!
