900 year old aliens aren't exactly common in the verse. So if The Doctor were to suddenly drop by Coruscant and found himself face-to-face with Yoda, who would prevail?

I'm fairly new to The Doctor Who universe, but unless he can harness the powers of the Time Lord offensively, then I don't like his chances against Yoda and The Force. Sure The Doctor can regenerate, but only within the TARDIS right?

Not that pitching two characters from very different fictional frameworks really has any meaning, but I'm going with the Doctor. No doubt his sonic screwdriver has an app for those enabling midichlorians. Really, though, they probably wouldn't even fight.

While they kinda suggested that with the first Doctor, the answer to the question is no.

Wrong.

First Doctor - inside the Tardis
Second Doctor - unknown and arguable
Third Doctor - outside
Four Doctor - outside
Fifth Doctor - inside the Tardis
Sixth Doctor - inside the Tardis
Seven Doctor - in the morgue
Eighth Doctor - unknown, never seen or mentioned
Ninth Doctor - inside the Tardis
Tenth Doctor - inside the Tardis

Ah ok, yeah I've only seen NuWho, but that's good to know. They just made it seem like it was imperative for him to be in the TARDIS when he was in regenerating mode.

I think that was just an RTD thing. Before 9-10 and then Yana-Master, no two regenerations were alike. When RTD took over, one of the things he had them all do was the stand up-spread legs and arms out-magic yellow glowing light-thing, so all regenerations are looking like that now. Classic series, not so much.

It does give it a nice consistency, yes, but also a bit of "oh, this again" type sameness.

Why would they be at odds? I think they'd get along like a house on fire.

The Doctor embraces his emotions. He is insanely attached to his companions. Fear, anger, hate - all part of his character. And he loves that he has so much power over the 'verse.

I don't think Yoda would approve.

The vote is pretty close as of now..

Yoda and The Doctor would not fight. They would not be in conflict. As Dream said, they would probably have a nice chat over a cup of tea.

Well, there's River Song twice regenerating outside the TARDIS. I haven't seen any imperative to return to the TARDIS, just, coincidentally, that he was there.

However, if you watch the Tenth Planet, that's someone who believes he desperately needs to return to the TARDIS. I'd argue it isn't until the Third Doctor regenerates that it becomes clear this isn't technological.

I would imagine, that while technically unnecessary, it's preferable for the Doctor to be in the Tardis when he regenerates, if only for his own safety. After all he almost didn't make it into his eighth incarnation thanks to well meaning paramedics.

As for Yoda Vs. The Doctor, any conflict rather depends on whether a sonic screwdriver can interfere with the workings of a lightsaber. And if either party is wearing a fez.

In the Fifth Doctor's first story "Castrovalva" there's the room in the TARDIS, the "Zero Room" which is sort of a tranquil enviornment and helps complete the regeneration (In several stories it takes a while for the Doctor to recover-he might be a new man on the outside but his brain is still regenerating for a while). However the room gets deleted in the same story, although I'm pretty sure it was mentioned recently so the Doctor or the TARDIS must have rebuilt it.

Going more on topic, it'd be interesting to have Yoda meet the first Doctor. Hartnell has a certain Yodaness about him, with the old face and the cane, and like Yoda, sometimes is hard to understand what he's saying ;)

Although Star Trek is often paired more often with Doctor Who-probably due to the longevity of both-Star Wars would be a better fit. Both are arguably more fantasy than sci-fi, meant for a (mostly) family audience, and while Doctor Who's future centuries and Milky Way Galaxy are kind of filled up already, the Doctor can easily set the TARDIS to go to a long time ago in a Galaxy far, far away.
