Yet another trailer released, this time on ABC

Made of cortosis, a rare metal that can somehow stand up to a lightsaber blade (or in some cases short the blade out). It's been a EU trope going all the way back to the video game 'Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight' (to give you an opponent you couldn't instantly slash in half). Don't know it works in the DU though, or if they've gone in a totally new direction with it.

It seems the stormtroopers have anti-lightsaber staff weapons now. Weren't those on one of the games?

KOTOR...

Vibroswords/blades:

A vibroblade could be fitted with cortosis-weave, allowing it to parry the blows of lightsabers and energy swords. The cortosis-weave became less common when the probability of fighting a lightsaber-wielding opponent decreased. By the time of the Galactic Civil War, knowledge of the cortosis-weave had faded, and the cortosis mineral itself had become exceedingly rare. A highly adaptable variant of the vibroblade, the prototype vibroblade, could be fitted with a number of weapon enhancements.

The Grievous guards' weapons are supposed to be made of phrik, which basically works the same as cortosis.

I know they appeared in Republic Commando, the ROTS game, and the Force Unleashed games.

Never revealed so obviously not canon, but it really seems like the staves used by the Republic / Imperial Guard would have had that property, too, no?
