Yesterday's Enterprise Special effects redone

It would be fun to see the effects redone with the Enterprise-C based on Andrew Probert's design for the ship. I like Rick Sternbach's design for the Ambassador-class starship a great deal -- and I have tremendous admiration for Sternbach as a designer and illustrator -- but I prefer Probert's version of this particular ship.

And given the dialogue, the ships seem maddeningly static in their movements.

I've never heard/seen those designs. Got a link?

That's one of my gripes about the FX of this episode, the only time we see it move is when it comes out of and goes into the temporal rift. It just sits there during the first Klingon attack, despite Garret ordering evasive maneuvers. Perhaps if they did, Garret wouldn't have died.

I wonder: If Garret had lived would Tasha have gone back with the Enterprise-C. If she hadn't, could she have ended up on the Enterprise-D again due to the new timeline created by the E-C leaving the battle, returning to the battle and the Klingon War timelines all being merged and or removed?

When did that happen?

It happened in "Way of The Warrior" and the effects might have been reused in later eps. We saw several Klingon ships, both Vor'Chas and D7s firing beams from their forward torpedo launchers, and we also saw DS9's updated weapons for the first time. Aside from a few dedicated heavy phaser arrays, all of the sail towers and turrets fire both phasers and torpedoes. So there's no doubt that a dual-purpose launcher design exists in the Trek universe.

There's nothing in the dialogue from "Darmok" that says it's an error. Geordi says that he has to modify the phasers and some of the prefire systems, but he doesn't mention which system he's describing with the latter. The best I could think of is that perhaps running it through the torpedo unit was preferable because it was closer to the warp core in engineering than the saucer arrays, and Geordi could channel more power into the blast. But that's purely speculation.

Possible.

However, when I looked at the DVD's and the screen caps, you can see that the torpedoes launch from a launcher, while the phasers fire from an array around the launcher. The array is clearly visible. From what I can see the Enterprise-D does not have the phaser torpedo launcher combo. It's launcher does not have an array around it Like the DS9 design.

Here are some pictures from The Way of the Warrior that show the torpedoes launching from a launcher and the phaser from an array, that admittedly, surrounds the launcher.

I also think I've derailed this thread enough already.

That is true. The effects happen very fast onscreen, so they can easily appear to be from the same launcher.
