Decide for yourself. Is this the greatest news ever or a sign of the apocalypse?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, they are making a movie version of one of the most notorious short-lived shows of the '80s.

Manimal

Manimal followed Dr. Jonathan Chase, a wealthy doctor with a mysterious past, who morphed into animals in order to help the police fight crime.

I honestly don't know what to say about this one.

Personally I'd rather Hollywood took an idea that failed/was badly realised in the first place and tried to improve it, than they continue to take classic tv/films and making pooer revisions of them.

i remember that the man to animal transformations taking ages to complete on the show.

That matches my recollection. Those effects sequences were expensive, they had to show them off.

Can a Misfits of Science movie be far behind?

Yep.

So the real question is: Are they going to take a concept and treat it right to try to make it work the way it didn't before, or are they just going to do what they usually do and turn it into a shitty "comedy" with a has-been star and no laughs?

(I confess I can practically see them remaking Rob Schneider's The Animal and just adding morphs to the actual animals he impersonated)

Will the needless recycling ever end? I swear, remaking every movie ever made/making every half-successful TV show into a movie started about 20 years ago, and that train's been a chuggin' ever since. Choo-Choo!

They've finally scraped through the arse of the barrel!

Oh, trust me. They'll find something else. After all of the remakes get done, then will come the remade remakes, and then the remade remakes of the remakes. I think it will be on an every 10 year cycle so every new generation can have their own movie. It's not just movies, but television too. 90210 was remade, and I'm sure casting for the new Saved By the Bell will begin soon.
