Clearly this movie is far more epic than the original series, everything about it screams that in the trailer. As for the transporter, I think we need an animated GIF to get a better look at it.

Let me tell you, the capture doesn't do the effect justice...add to that the camera is moving when Spock is beaming down, its a really cool shot as the effect unravels leaving a very determined Spock on the surface.

The thing is though, how does it progress from that to what we have in TNG and upwards, does it fit? Does it appear more primitive or is it actually cooler than the TNG and up effect?

Does it matter? STII-IV had totally different FX from any other Trek. How are we to judge what sparkly effect looks more or less advanced...its a TRANSPORTER, probably an impossible fictional technology!
