XBox Social?

Okay, I know I'm late to the party on this one, but I've had my own XBox 360 since March, and just yesterday, I added a friend to my social list.

Now, aside from seein' his avatar and gettin' a notice that he's online, what's the point of this?

I don't get it.

Hopefully this is the right forum for askin' a clueless question about an aspect of a game console.

If they're on your friends list, you can see what they're playing, and if it's a multiplayer game, join in.

It's also easier to send them messages, or invites to join you in your game (though you can normally type out the Gamertag to do that). Or compare your achievement lists, if you're into that sort of thing.
