Anyone else had this issue?

I copied some of my own music from my PC to my phone which I had ripped using Windows Media Player and it plays fine on the PC but on the phone I get an exclamation mark and the songs are greyed out saying something about usage rights...

So what's going on here?

This only seems to have affected one album.

Could there be a new level of copyright protection on newer CD's?

I know DVD's and blu-ray's are always evolving with newer types of protection.

ITunes have a protection that allows only so many copies to be made of a file, but I have never run into this with ripped CD's, though none of my newer albums are from the large US companies.

No it's an album from a CD that is nearly 10 years old. I've copied over all my music from my music folder many, many times from my backup drive to my PC whenever I've had to reinstall Windows and never had issues. This only happened today out of the blue on my windows phone..
