XBox 360's Crackdown: So Much Fun!

I just played this game a couple weeks ago for the first time. It's got to be the most addictive game I've ever played; I played it non-stop for two weeks. It was only after I finished the game twice that I finally got sick of it.

It's basically Grand Theft Auto if you were a superhero with super strength, speed, and the ability to leap small buildings in a single bound. It takes place in a vast open-world city of three zones controlled by three gangs. You're basically taking down a series of boss characters surrounded by thugs.

I tell ya, nothing is more fun than leaping up tall skyscrapers searching for agility orbs, shooting down on random thugs from great heights. Endless fun.

And there's ten ways to get to any of the bosses. You can choose your path and skills and strategy. You can go in the front door and mow down a hundred guys. Or you can leap around the high points to get the drop on him unawares. There's also a super secret short cut to most of the early bosses.

It is a shame there wasn't more content to the game, though. Aside from the bosses and the random crime, the only thing to do is roof-top and car races, which I sucked ass at and never bothered attempting. And the driving was worthless. Who wants to drive when you can go bounding around rooftops?

Also, the bosses are never anything more than another thug with more hit points. There's never anything spectacular, like an enemy with the same super powers as you, or a massive multi-story robot/monster. Oh well.

The graphics were great. The city is vast and unending with no load times and looks great. The characters are cell-shaded like a comic book, so it's not amazing next-gen looking but it still looks great.

I pray they make a sequel (they won't soon but maybe in the future) with improvements!

It's been a while since I last played it, but I remember that finding new agility orbs was one of the most addictive experiences I've ever had :p

Been thinking about picking this one up especially since it's $14.99 used at Gamestop and I can get 35% off of that right now.

I just recently beat Far Cry Instincts Predator and I gotta say, WHAT A GREAT GAME! or should I say 2 great games.

I bought it when I bought my 360 back in October '06 and hated it.

I was playing it on the predator level and couldn't seem to get very far because I kept dying too easy.

I dug it out about 3 weeks ago and figured out the Sneak/stalk strategy and haven't put it down since.
What a LOOONG game! The world in it is huge!
I love how you gain new powers throughout the game then how the poison dart guys can take them away after you get used to using them.

I also love the fact that this game proves that a shooter doesn't have to be dark and void of color and still have pretty good graphics.

I am sooo looking forward to Far Cry 2 now it isn't even funny.

I love the new fix yourself and vehicles game play.
check out your guy pulling out the shrapnel and fixing his dislocated arm.

Yeah this was a great game and I was right in the middle of it when my first Xbox RROD'd. That was before the 3 year warranty thing and I was enjoying Crackdown so much, I ran out and picked up an arcade model as a replacement.

Of course after I finished Crackdown, I asked myself, "Now wasn't that stupid?"

EDITED TO ADD: I realized after posting in the "Is My 360 Dead" thread that this post was very misleading on my part and just factually inaccurate.

My 360 did die during "Crackdown" but I didn't actually get the RROD, but I got similar symptoms. At the time it died, MSFT wouldn't fix it for free and instead of paying a repair fee, I elected to buy another. Some months later, MSFT announced the 3 year warranty and then they did fix the broken 360 at that point at no charge.

Yeah, the end of the game it does get very been-there. But man, those first 10 hours are GOLD! :D There's nothing more addicting than running leveling up your abilities. Jump up a roof, grab an orb, and you just went up 1%! Kill a squad of gangsters and your weapons just went up 2%!

The thing with the orbs is that as your agility goes up you're able to collect ones you couldn't reach before. It's a cycle of addiction!

I had a lot of fun with the demo but the narrator voice annoyed the hell out of me. When I read that there wasn't an option included to turn that off, I decided not to purchase the game.

this is one of my favorite games of all time. it's just fun. and it controls really well. i had no problem running up to a guy, punching him, jump back behind a car, kick it at a group of guys, then jump past them all firing rockets as i land on a nearby rooftop.

it's just a realy fun game. sure it could be improved... but it was still a very fun game.

This thread made me go back and play it for a few hours last night. I forgot how easy it is once you have 4 star skills on everything.

I loved the narrator! I thought he was hilariously melodramatic. And after the first hour of playing he doesn't talk nearly as much, as he basically talks whenever you do something new. But he'll occasionally say "good job, agent!" "agent! enemies on the rooftop!" I liked it.
