X-men Forever...could it work on any other comic?

Heeroyuy

Lieutenant
There's a new comic series out, X-men Forever (Not to be confused with the 2000 limited series which was mainly a cash in on the fantastic Avengers Forever), which pretty much ignores any X-men continuity past 1991's X-men second series #3, when Claremont took a nearly decade-long hiatus from the X-franchise (He returned in 2000 and later around '04 or so, but to less than enthusiastic reception.) Basically, X-men Forever allows him to continue his original comics run the way he wanted to, without crossing over to the other, current comics.

Question is, could this approach work on any other series? I'd love to have seen where Peter David would've taken the Hulk after Betty's death, but unfortunately Bryne, Jenkins, and Jones kind of screwed it up (Although Jones's run was retconned). Although PAD sort of was able to use some of the dangling Hulk storylines over in Captain Marvel (Which is pretty much the sequel to his TIH run, minus for the most part the Hulk, unfortunately).

Plus with this "Forever" concept they really could've avoided that Spider-Man One More Day mess. (Technically Spider-Girl is Spider-Man Forever though, as it diverges at the Clone saga).

Could it work on any other comic? Well, we don't know if it's gonna work with this one, do we?

If your question is: "could a comic book series be an interesting read without being part of a shared universe?", the answer is "of course, in fact, there are many such series".
