WWE vs. NBA

So, the geniuses at Kroenke Sports - who own the Nuggets and the Pepsi Center - have a scheduling conflict.

Back in August of 2008, they booked and signed a contract with WWE to host Monday Night Raw at the Pepsi Center.

However, the NBA scheduled Game 4 of the Nuggets/Lakers THE SAME NIGHT.

Having already sold 10,000 tickets, and with sellouts every time they come to Denver, and with big TV ratings for MNR, Vince McMahon and WWE are slightly miffed that this has happened.

And I agree. And I live in Denver.

It's a fucking contract. Honor it. Don't schedule the game on that night.

What say you guys?

The fact that I'm a wrestling fan and don't particularly care for basketball amazingly doesn't really factor into this. It's pretty cut and dry. WWE got there first.

Wrestling has sucked sing Andre The Giant took a dive to Hulk Hogan at Wrestlemania III.

Real sports ahead of bad theater. Move the Wrestling to the Stock Show facilities.

Go Nuggets!

I completely agree; and I don't even like WWE anymore.

Apparently WWE had made the booking in August of 2008, Pepsi Center officials contacted WWE in March or April of this year to confirm the booking (on the last day of the NBA regular season, so they knew the Nuggets could go deep as the Number 2 seed), sent WWE a contract which WWE signed and returned.

Basketball, imo, is the superior product. It'll mean something if the Nuggets win.

That being said, Denver doesn't have any other facilities they could use instead?

BOOM!

If Kroenke Sports is this retarded, either 1) reschedule NBA or 2) pay WWE 3 times the fees they're losing.

We have the coliseum, which holds 10k+, but is nowhere near the modern facility Pepsi Center is.

Well, it would be better than nothing. That way they could still fulfill their contractual obligations with the WWE and still allow the Nuggets to have a home court advantage in a playoff Basketball game.

If I'm not mistaken, that would mean a back-to-back in the playoffs..

New story is that WWE might take the show to the Staples Center, although that would entail refunds for Denver ticket holders.

Wow, talk about being stuck in the middle. Should I stay loyal to WWE or to Kroenke (who owns a large chunk of Arsenal FC) ? :)

Realistically, WWE booked the arena first, and a contract is a contract is a contract. Plus Vince McMahon is not somebody you want to f*** with.

I would imagine the Pepsi Center is already in a pretty stiff contract with the Nuggets. They are probably better off dealing with any breach of contract issues with the phony wrestling people than the NBA.

Do I have to list the legitimate, potentially life threatening injuries the "fake" wrestlers have received ? Just the current roster ?

People can get hurt pretending to be athletes just like the real deal can.

^ Stunt people often recieve injuries or even die. Doesn't make what happens in movies "real", though.

Doesn't make what they do "fake". They work matches with predetermined outcomes but, as the don't try this at home video says, how do you learn to fall off a 30ft ladder ?

Regardless, people's views of the legitimacy of WWE as an organisation are irrelevant. They're still a very large entertainment company who entered in to a legally binding contract with the owners of this stadium.

It is also true that the chairman of that organisation is, putting aside his television persona, someone who is well known for not taking anything lying down and as such his company's legal rights should not just be dismissed because a few people don't like that company's product. He will remind you endlessly that he took on the Federal Government and won and that he took on Ted Tuner's billions and won.

The issue if wrestling is phony or not is completely and utterly pointless. The main point of this is that they made a contract back in august of last year, and suddenly there is a conflict.

WWE will probably just go to the filming location that took place on the ECW and Smackdown tapings yesterday, and I doubt anyone will want to deal with the Nuggets again.

That's a good point. Jim Ross has, in the past, described how their choice of venues works.

WWE has one, large production truck that is always either at an arena or on the road to the next arena. The movements of that truck are very carefully planned many, many months in advance. I'm not sure where the Smackdown and ECW tapings are the next night but the truck has to be there.

That means that they can't just drive to New York or Los Angeles to host Raw at one of the places that have stepped in to offer their services.
