Hi! I've been asked a few questions in response to this story which I thought it might be helpful and informative to answer here, so:
1. No I've never been to China! Despite the descriptions here seeming quite accurate (apparently) all the information you see in the stories (so far at least) has either been garnered from Google and the internet at large, or invented to fit in with known facts!
Would love to visit these places, but for now, the internet is my only guide!
2. Somebody asked if I have a definitive plan for my story when I begin to write it. Erm, kind of. This story had a very rough outline which has already changed several times by the third chapter!
My beginning and ending are pretty much fixed, but as I write I find better and more entertaining ways (hopefully) of travelling between the two points!
3. Why don't I get them published? Well, thank you! I appreciate your confidence in my amateur talents, such as they are. The problem is that my stories involve a non-canon crew and ship, which for Simon & Schuster is a no-no so I'm afraid that's not going to happen unfortunately.
4. Where do I get my ideas from? Well to be honest there are three main sources.
Star Trek in all its incarnations, obviously. I like to take elements of Trek that have never been expounded upon and develop them into ful blown plots (or sub plots) as you may have noticed in the latest book.
Real life. For example: A military coup in a foreign country that then affects the balance of world power, becomes a military coup on a Federation planet that threatens the stability of a sector and even places an alliance with a neighbouring power at risk. Check the news, there are some fantastic story elements there from the global to the personal.
My own slightly bizarre imagination. I won't expand on that, 'nuff said.
Any other questions, feel free to ask. Just don't ask what's going to happen next, READ IT!
