As some of you may know, Steve Mollmann and I are writing a TOS novel that comes out next year, entitled A Choice of Catastrophes. As if writing such a long piece of fiction wasn't difficult enough, we've deliberately created a number of potential stumbling blocks. Now, we could have made it easier on us and omitted all the troubling scenes that require research, but we didn't want to do that.
The problem we're facing currently is one of lacking personal experience in one important field, i.e. Scottish dialects. Other topics, such as meteorology for example, can be researched pretty easily, but language and variations thereof are another kettle of fish.
So, in my longwinded way of expressing things (which Steve will be painfully familiar with), I'm asking if anybody here is able and willing to help us out. There's a short message from Scotty to somebody else, only a paragraph long, which needs to be in authentic Aberdeenshire dialect (or a decent fake thereof). We tried it ourselves, but here's where the aforementioned lack of experience and close personal knowledge comes into play. It shouldn't look like the work of somebody using an online English-to-Scots dictionary, which I'm afraid it currently does.
