Wrath of Khan Returning to Theaters in 2022

Cool.

Might have to do this just for giggles. I was 14 the first time around. Blew me away pretty hard, but even after the first viewing I didn't think for a minute Spock was going to stay dead.

It IS the best of all the Trek movies, pretty much undisputed, and worth seeing on the big screen, especially if you never have.

I haven’t seen it in the theaters since I was 6 years old in 1982…so it’s almost like I’ve never see it on the big screen lol!

I've been to the movies three times since reopening and it's been fine. Half full theaters (if that) and plenty of room between people. Masks on unless eating or drinking. Unless you're in an at risk and unvaxxed category, you should be okay. Unless there's a hideous variant by then. Anything is possible. But, obviously, if you don't feel safe, no film is worth it. Be safe!

Sign me up for another theatrical Khan showing!

I've seen TWOK twice in the theater... in 2010 and 2017 when they had special screenings.

With the way my schedule is nowadays, I don't think I'll be able to pull off going a third time. But I will if I can. The fact that they're doing a 40th Anniversary Screening gives me a lot of hope for what's next. They've done one for TMP, they're doing one for TWOK, so there's a good chance they might do one for TSFS.

TSFS is now the only Star Trek movie I haven't seen in a theater. That's a hole I'm hoping to plug in 2024. I don't care what else I'd have going on, I'll take the time off for it.

Fathom events seems to skip certain movies. I saw TSFS in a small independent theater in Philly a few years ago. It was the only time I've been able to see it theatrically since 1984. Fathom, though, has run TMP, TWOK and TVH. While I'm not surprised they avoid TFF, TSFS is part of a trilogy and the connecting film between II and IV.

A bit weird they haven't put TUC out in a special anniversary showing, but I guess they're focusing on films they feel will bring in the most box office.

I don't think they show TSFS because Leonard Nimoy doesn't show up as Spock until the end of the film, and even then he's still not really himself yet. If I were them, I'd rather show a movie where Spock's there throughout. But I'm not them, I'm me, so I still want to go see it anyway.

They may be using viewing data off P+, which ever film is getting the most views are next up on big screen. That may explain the out of order screenings. ST4 was last at the theater.
They do them based on anniversaries. Last year was the 35th for TVH and had the 4k masters to show off. They did TMP on the 40th (also from a new master). This is the 40th anniversary year for TWOK (they did the 35th). They skipped TSFS for every anniversary. They're probably going with the "odd numbered films suck" theory but TMP was the first film. To be honest, I was surprised they actually ran it.

ST4 was screened because it was the shiny newly remastered version, which was also released on UHD disc and blu-ray. Doing TWOK would have been redundant because the remastering had already been done at the time of the Director's Cut a few years before that, and it had a Fathom showing at that time, so there wouldn't have been anything new about it to showcase. And TSFS isn't a big enough draw to be an "event."

I did see the 35th anniversary Fathom showing of the TWOK DC. Good times. Wait... 2017? It's been that long already? I'll definitely plan on this one. I have been cautious about crowds in enclosed spaces too. But these Fathom showings typically have all of about six people in the entire auditorium. So I'm not too concerned about this one.

When I saw TVH in 2012, they showed a 1986 film print. Maybe it was a different event.

But I preferred that they showed a film print from the '80s. Made it feel more like the Authentic Moviegoing Experience. I want the scratches, the grit, and the snaps, crackles, & pops.

Have to wait and see where we're at with COVID come September.

I'd love to go see it, but until I'm confident I can safely go into an enclosed space like a theater again, it's probably not happening for me.

I'd feel safe wearing this.

I may do this. I have more than one theater to choose from this time, I suspect. If the Totem Lake Cinemark is playing this in September, I am so there!
