wow! Speilberg is aware of Star Trek. Just imagine..

Well EVERYONE is aware of it. What I mean is that I've NEVER heard him mention it or reference it. However I just saw the Terminal for the first time, and he actually directed scenes that refer to it. He directed Zoe whatshername how to do a slightly incorrect Vulcan salute for the film! Interesting that Zoe is now in the new film....

Now that he is aware of it (publicly) does he like it? What if he DIRECTED a film for the franchise?

He would probably make a bluddy good film - he has not made many bad ones and a lot of classics.

Spielberg is a little too big for Trek, even at its peak he was considered too big.

But with the new movie we have a name with a good pedigree, a great cast and a story that could be very good if well executed and not hacked together like Nemesis was.

Why not?

Star Trek has long ago entered mainstream and people are usually not considered nerds if they watch the occasional Trek movie.

Why shouldn't movie directors or other celebrities not be fans of the franchise.. he grew up with TOS i suppose and sometimes the love for a show stays with a person forever.
Just look at how many people were inspired by Trek to become aeronautical/space engineers and went on to work for NASA.. i guess their ratio is pretty high.
