Would you prefer the title of Skipper / Captain if you were in charge of a StarShip?

We know that due to naval history, the person in charge of the ship at the time is to be called "Captain", regardless of actual rank.

Should we use the term "Skipper" instead to avoid confusion with the actual rank of "Captain"?

Would it feel wierd to call the current CO of a Ship or whomever is put in charge while the higher ups are on away missions "Skipper"?

Only if it's just a 3 hour tour. :techman:

Personally, I prefer "CO"* or sir/ma'am for non-O6 commanding officers, commodore for OC of more than one ship and "CAG" for airwing commanders.

* Which appears to be RAN policy.

There was an episode of Deep Space Nine where Jadzia mentioned the 'skipper' of some starship. The line sounded extremely corny, like some shithead scriptwriter was trying to sound all maritime-y.

As an aside, my dad was in the navy in WWII and the crews on both subs he served on called their captain "The Old Man." That seemed to be the norm in WWII.

There's a difference between being a Captain and the Captain. I think call the Captain - Captain and the other namesakes can go by Commander/s.
