Remember the Shogun Warriors? Cool ass robot toys long before the Transformers? Marvel had a pretty good comic series about them? Well, turns out some movers and shakers in Hollywood are going ahead with the film adaptation...check out this test footage highlighting the SW Gaiking...

My favorites were the mid size die cast ones, and now that I have money, I'm slowly buying the ones I didn't have as a kid. Probably going to buy the big ass ones at some point.

Man, that clip is badass.

We're living in good times, us geeks.

So are they going to license all those different properties? It looks like Shogun Warriors consists of stuff taken from different franchises like Godzilla, Mazinger, Gaiking. That can't be cheap it's one of the reasons we never get any Super Robot Wars games over here.

Interesting, I wonder how high that property ranks in the public consciousness.

I don't know, something about this all seems a bit suspicious to me. I could see that being some Japanese project maybe, the footage looks like one, but I guess we'll see.

You sure that's live action? That girl looked pretty CG to me...

Unfortunately the Transformers have pretty much dominated the "giant robots movie" genre, so I wouldn't expect Shogun Warriors to make much of a dent. As noted, they're pretty obscure compared to the Transformers.

And anyway, after GI Joe and Transformers, and the announcement of Stretch Armstrong, the next big toys to movie thing over here will probably be Big Jim...

^^ I didn't think about the global market, I admit I was thinking from a USA-centric standpoint. Of course, when talking about a Hollywood movie that has to be a consideration.

It will. And with that, live action Starblazers, live action Voltron, more Transformers and GI Joe, Robotech hovering out there somewhere...Tron sequel...Alien AND Blade Runner projects with Ridley Scott...Logan's Run remake...and a whole lot more coming down...it's a good time to be a geek, especially one who has been around awhile.

There will be a Japanese Yamato movie next year: the trailer is seven kinds of awesome, but I'm not completely sold on the CGI.

Robotech and Voltron have WIN written all over, I can't wait for them.
