Would you be disappointed if aliens were humans?

Imagine we finally establish contact with an alien race and we discover they are humans just like us, except they are more technologically advanced and perhaps speak a different language, but physically they are equal to us. They have the same races as we do and when tested have the same blood types and organs.

Would you be disappointed or happy the first alien contact is with humans?

It'd be worse if they looked like gazelles. BTW, did I ever tell you about my trip through southern Africa when I came upon a gazelle...

I'd be a little terrified at the prospect at first, but actually ultimately feel reassured that humans were not only not alone, but also not unique, in the Universe. (It's something I've felt would actually happen come First Contact with a new extraterrestrial race.)

Agreed. People suck. Alien people could suck more. ;)

I'd be real disappointed, I'm hoping for something really mind blowing.:klingon:

This isn't as strange a thought as it might seem. Though I figure it's more likely that the 'aliens' would probably be humans from another dimension/parallel universe.

What if these aliens being like us and all also had a world war 2 where they had their own version of Hitler and the Nazis but on their world the Nazis won?

Would you all be disappointed then? ;)

Funny you should mention this, I was watching a UFO show once (can't recall the name) but someone on it believed that aliens were actually humans from the future who have done nothing more then time-travel to our present time. (And I'm serious about this)

Well, I'd be intrigued, because it would be likely that these humans either evolved on Earth-- or that Earth humans evolved elsewhere! My favorite representation of alien beings is generally Orson-Scott Card's "buggers." If intelligent beings evolved elsewhere I find it very unlikely that they look like us... unless we all share the genetic coding for a hologram that would explain our separate, yet similar traits as originating from a distant humanoid species that blew genetic sperm all over the galaxy...

I'd consider ourselves lucky. Lucky that we went down a different path. And also lucky that at least they wouldn't be Alien Nazis™. :bolian:

I'd be a bit disappointed, but it's not going to happen. The only way "aliens" could be Human would be if some other advanced race seeded one or the other of our planets with people from the other (and we know it isn't this one) within a recent enough time for there to be little or no genetic drift.

Some intelligent aliens from another world may be bipedal, but there's no way they will even vaguely pass for Human. Well, possibly in a trenchcoat and slouch hat on a dark night. :rommie:
