WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension lasted?

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

I was very disappointed when Paris' behaviour turned out to be a ruse. Him going further and further off the rails could have been awesome.

No!

The reason for the tension between Chakotay and Paris was because Chakotay suspected that Paris had betrayed the Maquis while Paris actually was captured by Starfleet during a mission for the Maquis. Paris never told Starfleet anything about the whereabouts of the Maquis until he got an offer from Janeway he couldn't refuse and joined the Voyager crew for that fateful mission.

As we saw in "Caretaker", Paris actually saved Chakotay's life and I'm sure that they had a long talk afterwards about what really happened when Paris were captured by Starfleet and why he joined Janeway's crew.

I don't think that the series had been better with an ongoing tension between Chakotay and Paris. It would have been illogical and not added anything to the show.

Not to mention that I still cringe when I think of Stargate Universe and the constant silly bickering, arguing and fighting between crewmembers and factions on board that ship. :ack:

Yes he should have become a big problem to Janeway before he rehabilitated. Other than 30 Days we didn't see it. It almost feels like they did that with Seska and afterwards it had to be all about the harmony/family thing.

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

I would've like to have seen it last a few more episodes at least. With the tension being more or less sorted out between them in an episode that centred on the two characters but that's just me.

Would it have made it a better show? I don't think so personally but it could've made for an interesting episode or two if they made it last for a few more episodes at least.

Chak couldn't even manage tension between himself and the lover who betrayed him. He's just either a blank or a very chilled out guy, depending on how much you like him

 You mean like in the episode where they discovered Seska was a traitor? You mean to say the scene where he says ''I just have one question ''Why?'' wasn't tense enough?

I actually don't mind Chakotay but I do agree that Robert Beltran didn't do the best emotional scenes in the world.

It's not even OH GOD SHE HAD AN AFFAIR it's "she is an entirely different species and has been using me from day one, she works for THE ENEMY".

Re: WoulD Voyager have been better if Paris and Chakotays tension last

Well, Janeway's standing right next to him, so Chakotay's probably trying to observe his best behavior so that he doesn't strangle Seska to death right there in sickbay. He and Seska really needed a confrontation scene with no one else in the room so they could scream their lungs out.

Nice excuse.

He looks drugged.

 As I've said before I actually didn't mind Chakotay but that wasn't his best scene.

Chakotay/Tom-No

.....but I wouldn't have minded if the played out the tension between Chakotay & Tuvok for a season. The tension between Tom & Chuckles was fake, Tom was only doing it under orders from Janeway but the animosity between Chuck & Tuvok was real. Chakotay felt tricked by him and Tuvok was so smug about it, you could see in the first few eps Chakotay hated him. I didn't feel it ever got proper resolution.

Absolutely this. I think the fact Tuvok was undercover with the Marquis being swept under the carpet was one of the big mistakes of the first season.

And on the flipside, you get a few clear points that Tuvok thinks he should be First Officer, or Chakotay thinks his position is in title only as Janeway always goes to Tuvok for what would normally be Second in Command advice. There was plenty of scope for friction between the two that just wasn't explored.

Yeah now that I think about it that's quite true.

Absolutely agree. I never thought about it, but you are right.
Another missed opportunity to make my fav show lightyears better as it is.
