Think about it. Spock was really as popular if not more popular than Kirk. If I recall, early in the original series Nimoy's spock become increasingly popular especially after the Naked Time aired. And so much so that Shatner felt threatened and made sure he had more lines that Nimoy.
But for some reason, I find it hard to believe that if this movie had Shatner but not Nimoy, that there would be the same uproar. I'm a fan of both actors/characters but I must say I’m surprised how popular the shat is and all the angry reaction its getting from the Shatner fans and even casual star trek fans. The casual trekkie seems to be puzzled. They are all saying “But Nimoy is in it..so Shatner should be also”. It seems some people just cant except the possibility that the script would only work with Shatner NOT in it.
Of course after the movies is released is when anyone really can say if that decision was wise or not.
But seriously if the movie DID NOT have Nimoy (and Nimoy also would want to be in it like Shatner does now), would u have Nimoy fanatics doing the same thing the shatner crowd is doing right now? Or do hardcore Nimoy fans pattern Spock's character of being rather cool and unemotional....hmm I wonder
