This.
Not Really. There were a few cringeworthy moments with Rom - whenever he would exhort a kinda exaggerated "huh?", with the requisite super clueless semi-cartoonish voice, and especially when he would cry "moogieeee".
- but I grew to have a great affection for him as the series went on, especially in regards to his relationships with Nog, Quark and Leeta. And I actually found the Quark-Rom storyline during the six-parter very touching.

Would anyone like to have seen Rom recast?
The two things that bugged me about Rom were his annoying voice and his unsightly crooked tooth, which I always found distracting, but I doubt the actor was to blame for either. If it was a choice by the people running the show to do his make-up like that and have him talk the way he did, recasting wouldn't have solved the problem. If those two things had been changed about Rom, I would have liked him a lot more. The voice was especially grating. He sounded like some simpleton Looney Tunes character (i.e. The Abominable Snowman) or the cowardly Lion from "The Wizard of Oz", which made it hard to take him seriously when he was really angry or serious about something. I did enjoy his cowardly scream of "Moooogie!" in "Little Green Men", though.![]()
Not a big fan of Rom. His development turned out to be very good, but the "idiot shtick" moments were awful...^ Yes, those. There were a few cringeworthy moments with Rom - whenever he would exhort a kinda exaggerated "huh?", with the requisite super clueless semi-cartoonish voice, and especially when he would cry "moogieeee".
