Worst Season Ever?

What do people think is the worst season of a sci-fi or fantasy show ever? There are many mediocre seasons and many individual episodes that are horrible, but very rarely does a show manage to string together so many subpar episodes, be filled with many worst episodes, or use such repugnant plot elements to make a whole season considered among the worst ever for the genre on television.

Here are some of the contenders, just the ones I know of, to refresh people's memories. Obviously other posters can add any I forget:
* X-Files Season 9 (Doggett/Reyes, the show was last good in the last century, many horrible episodes and ratings below Season 1, which X-Files was a sleeper hit)
* Earth: Final Conflict Season 5 (the season with the infamous "revamp", going so far beyond left field, it ended up trying to play baseball in a hockey rink. Only 1 original cast member left and his character has been reduced down to 1 dimension, co-lead promoted up to be Renee the Atavus slayer, and we get Taelons replaced with the Avatus and 'fine' characters like Howlyn, who acts just like his name looks. Definately one of the biggest WTFs out there)
* Andromeda Season 5 (barely got made due to the disintegration of the syndication market/producers, considered totally separate from the rest of the series, even to the few fans Andromeda has. If it's held in lower regard than the rest of the series, that's saying something)
* Andromeda Season 3 or 4 (these seasons are considered pretty bad for horrid writing, horrid inconsistency, like the presence of an entire crew or not!)
* SeaQuest Season 2 or 3 might count (it's been a while, but I remember this show having very jarring transitions between seasons. Each season was like an entirely different show with the same cast & sub, but a totally different world its set in)
* Sliders Season 3 (Fox makes Sliders imitate movies badly and passes it off as sci-fi. Not every episode is horrible ("The Exodus" for example) but Fox does its best to make Sliders look like a show people would write in to a network *to cancel it* because it's so repulsive. BTW, Adventures of Sinbad Season 2 was forced to write episodes ripping off movies the head of Tribune or Atlantis liked, I forget which. As others noted, Season 4 was such a gigantic leap up in terms of quality of writing)
* Conan Season 1 (The 1997-98 syndicated show, not the 1992-94 syndicated cartoon, Conan the Adventurer, which was a great, albeit forgotten cartoon. Stars some German guy who can barely be understood [which might be a good thing considering the original Conan], the bearded midget friend of Kramer from Seinfeld, and a few other forgettables. Had very low ratings. Even hardcore fantasy fans, like those of Xena/Hercules/Sinbad ignored this one)
* The Battlestar Galactica "Galactica '80" season?
* And any others I've forgotten about.

I;ve heard bad things about Highlander Season 6 too.

I don't think any season of Star Trek (TOS to ENT) or Stargate SG-1 or Atlantis probably belongs on this list because while some may be packed with episodes people hate (e.g. "Genesis", "Masks", "Sub Rosa"), they don't have the strong revulsion effect some of the examples I listed had. They may be bad, but they've never been abysmal. ENT Season 2 kind of came close, with such overpowering mediocrity, a single 7 episode stretch caused, what was it, 1/3 or 1/2 the audience to leave? Even with that, it didn't really seem to make the cut with this elite club. No seasons of Hercules or Xena seem to be *this* bad (anyone remember The Adventures of Sinbad Season 2?), nor The Outer Limits (90s) or even Poltergeist: The Legacy or Lost in Space Season 3. I'm looking for the season that had the greatest recoil from being so repugnant, so destestable that it can be argued it was the worst season of sci-fi on television, with no redeeming value beyond being a cautionary tale of what can go wrong in a series (no camp value, this is so bad it's bad).

The only thing that jumps to mind you haven't mentioned is The Dead Zone season 6. Granted, season 4 was where they completely flushed all the promise down the toilet, but season 6 is atrocious.

I think X-Files season 9 had some good stuff in it. Galactica 80 is good for a laugh. And EFC s5 is definitely a WTF moment but it definitely has camp value.

So unless I think of something else, The Dead Zone s6 is it for me because there is nothing of value in it at all - no good episodes, no cheesy fun.

Voyager's third season was pretty bad--it almost made me quit. with Rise, Favorite Son, Darkling, Q and the Grey, Sacred Ground, Coda, The Swarm etc.

ENT's second season was pretty bland and did in the series with episodes like Canamar, Dawn, Precious Cargo, The Crossing, Horizon, Judgment, Marauders, Vanishing Point, Shockwave II, Bounty.

X-Files last two seasons were awful.

Heroes S3 was pretty bad with a bunch of fast pacing, too many plot points introduced and then quickly dropped.

The Event has been pretty bad in its first season.

Earth Final Conflict. Season One was awesome but it was downhill every season after that. Andromeda was always pretty bad. I can't say that I noticed anything better or worse in any of the seasons. The most memorable thing for me is Keith Hamilton Cobb's chain mail t-shirt.

I haven't watched Andromeda, and I'm sure there are lots of other awful shows I've missed. But from the shows I did watch, TNG season 1 definitely takes the cake. The X-Files season 7 was the nadir of the show (the only episode I really liked was the finale), and much worse than season 9. TNG season 2, VOY season 7 and season 3 and ENT season 2 were also pretty bad. I also thought the last season of Xena sucked.

That live-action CONAN was pretty wretched, but the bottom of the barrel is probably BLACK SCORPION, a show that failed to work even on the level of camp . . . .

Season 3 of Seaquest was a different show and not that bad. Season 2 was god awful.

Seasons 3-5 of Sliders. Exodus started off the second half of the season with brain sucking taking place and hunting the brain sucker down. What a mess.

B5 Season 5. Oh how I hate thee.

The Dead Zone season 6. Granted, season 4 was where they completely flushed all the promise down the toilet, but season 6 is atrocious.
Dear God, yes. No Walt and J.J. Mark III where bad enough, but boy was the writing was utterly horrid. And it's clear that no one cared. As much props as I give Nikki for her acting chops, she was terribly flat.

It's definitely a testament to The Piller of TV sci-fi. :(

Voyager's third season was pretty bad.
Not really... :sigh:

I'm sorry, but TNG's first season has to be included.
I never thought it was as bad as people make it out to be. It isn't any worse than six or seven.

Doctor Who (Original series) season 24. Sylvestor McCoy's first, where the whole thing descended into farce.

Babylon 5's last season. :(

It was the useless, weird epilogue to a series that had ended the previous season. And I really liked B5. :/

TNG's season 1 only improves with age, especially if seen as a true successor to TOS. There's so many moments that truly make you feel you're watching something made by the same people that made TOS.

TNG season 2 on the other hand, was the transition season between TOS and TNG, and suffered for it. TNG of course found it's own footing with Season 3, but I'd wager S2 of TNG was it's worst.

Earth Final Conflict. Season One was awesome but it was downhill every season after that.

Not entirely. Season 4 was actually pretty good again, albeit a totally different show from season 1. And there was some good stuff in the second half of season 2. Season 3, while unremarkable, wasn't outright bad.

ENT Season 3 was painfully bad. By the time the Xindi storyline was climaxing I no longer cared. Horrible!
SGU Season 2 was painfully boring.

Space: Above and Beyond was Dire...made S1 of TNG look like the Iliad.
Hmmm...I thought Space: Above and Beyond was awesome. Heroes S3 really stank, though. Not much difference between ENT S1 and S2, as far as I'm concerned, it didn't start getting at all interesting until S3 (but, I'm not a fan of Scott Bakula, so even the good episodes of ENT were a chore for me)

SGU Season 2 was painfully boring.

SGU, the first half of S1, I kept wondering, with every episode, "Why am I putting myself through this, there's never anything worth watching on this show"
Second half of S1, I found a couple of episodes that I thought "Hey, finally an episode that didn't completely suck"
First half of S2, a few more episodes that didn't suck, and actually found 1 or two that were enjoyable.
Second half of S2, so far I think most of the episodes have been pretty decent, and I don't think any of them ahve been awful, a couple, I've really enjoyed and thought were really good.

So, I think it started out at it's worst and has slowly improved. Don't understand, how you can claim a Season as the worst ever of any show, when it's still got 2 episodes left that haven't even aired
