I'm not truely fixated on it, but the ship being built on the ground seems a bit unrealistic. Imagine what it would take to get something that big into orbit, concidering things like GRAVITY! Your not going to use warp engines to move a ship into orbit. They tryed that in THE VOYAGE HOME, and it didn't make sense. Maybe the impulse engines are capable, but there again, is the ship aerodynamic enough to fly in atmosphere. I know they've tryed it over and over again, but it never made sense to me.

of all the changes Abrams made to the Star Trek universe, I can't believe that some people are obsessing over Abrams' decision to make them all 4-digit numbers.

The Enterprise being built on the ground and the Kelvins registry are odd but I cant believe topics about it are still going on...there should have been an option for those who arent bothered as its silly to get fixated on small details

A poster in this thread kind of implied it might be built in Iowa: http://www.trekbbs.com/showthread.php?t=73802
Also, the description of the bar scene at Empire kind of implies it, too.

I have avoided reading detailed descriptions of the 4 clips which include that bar scene...

Based on what's on the trailer though, the Enterprise building site could be anywhere.
There's no clear indication if it's Iowa, San Fransisco or Iran (jk).:)

Someone posting here is hardly a credible source. Also, I think Emipre may have made an assumption that the scene takes place in Iowa, especially since none of the other articles said that. They didn't quote JJ setting the clip up as being in Iowa. But with the transporter Earth is a small place (as demonstrated by O'Brien's decision-making in the series finale of DS9 and Sisko's academy habit of eating dinner at home in New Orleans). Maybe lots of people know this great bar in Iowa.

I'm not obsessed with any of these, but as a woman I'll echo T'Bonz sentiments in the other thread, how disappointed I am that they haven't found anything better than bras for us women by the 23rd Century. :p Oh, and I'll be pissed if we women don't get a gratuitous sexy shot of a shirtless Kirk in the movie. (Quinto Spock would be my choice for that actually, but we're more likely to get Kirk, which I'd be happy with. Pine is hot too!)

I find the fixation about where the Enterprise was built to be utterly bizarre. All of these are such minor details in the grand scheme of things.

The power source of Kirk's car. I think about these things, but not very hard. ;)

Tom Friedman, the NY Times columnist, was on Charlie Rose weeks back touting his new book and talking about environmental policy.
He raised a good point, he said we'll move beyond fossil fuels long before we ever run out of them. And, we'll probably never stop producing them in some quantity for some reason.
Could be gasoline and other petroleum products exist in the 23rd century for various purposes, however few. Seems logical. So that doesn't tax my mind too much.

Or, given it's Iowa, perhaps it's modified to be running on 100% ethanol. :)

Bra. I wonder why some sort of button sized anti-gravity device (tm) isn't used instead. They can lift mega-tonnage ships to orbit but they still can't do women better than over the shoulder boulder holders?
