Worst Episode of TNG: Season One Part One

Garth Rockett

I'm on a quest to find out what the TrekBBS thinks is the worst episode of Trek ever. Why? It's in this thread. Here are the rules:

For each season there will be one round where you can vote for your three least favorite episodes. The top five vote getters will then be presented to the membership to pick their least favorite.

Once a worst from each season has been selected, a worst from the entire series will be voted on. When that has been done, I'll conduct a poll in General Trek to decide the TrekBBS's Least Favorite.

Pick your THREE least favorites from TNG Season One.

I'd like to give all three votes to "Code Of Honor". ;) But since that isn't possible I also went with "Justice" and "Lonely Among Us".

"The Naked Now" - who would have thunk that right beyond the "furthest reaches of the galaxy" that was Farpoint Station there'd be an OBERTH class ship in distress...

"Code of Honor" - enough has been said about this.

"Home Soil" - good concept, badly executed.

Looks like Code of Honor and Justice are heavily maligned. Justifiable so in my opinion.

Code of Honor
The Last Outpost
Justice

All 3 of these episodes suffered from what I think was TOS-TNG conversion failure. They were episodes that seem like they might have worked as TOS episodes and have a heavy TOS tone, but didn't translate well into the late 80's.
I'm doing a TNG run right now, and though the above S1 episodes are whacked, I'm not sure if I find them any worse than the S3 soap operas I've just gone through. At least the bad S1 episdoes are still Star Trek. The later soap opera episodes are barely even Star Trek.

Had I remembered that "Justice" was the episode where they try to execute Wesley for walking on the grass, I would have chosen it. I had, thanfully, forgotten it... Thanks for dragging it back into my memory! :brickwall:

When the Bough Breaks and Too Short a Season for being disposable forgettable episodes and Angel One for being lame and very banally Buck Rogersish (and I liked Buck Rogers!).

CODE OF HONOR is at least amusingly awful.

The Naked Now - Cribbing a plot from TOS for the SECOND episode? Lame. Having a drunken adolescent out smart everybody and save the day? Good lord.

Code of Honor & Angel One - Just think, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton could have been inspired by these episodes' progressive portrayals of a realistic (as per an 18th Century European viewpoint) black civilization and a realistic (as per an idiot's viewpoint) matriarchal society. Err... Maybe not.

Encounter at Farpoint II, Justice and the Last Outpost.

Guess I'm the only person who's voted EaF so far... but really the second part was so bad... I mean, is that really the best Q could do to challenge Picard? And "PAAAIIIINNNN!" is cringeworthy.

Justice, enough said.

Agreed with MeanJoePhaser, at least Code of Honor is amusingly awful and sort of train wreckish... the others I voted for were boring and just plain stupid.

I can see that. Actually, the kinda retro feel of "The Last Outpost" is why I like it. The Next Generation would never feel this much like The Original Series again.

By bottom 3 were...

"Code of Honor"
Ironically, written by the same woman who wrote one of the worst, similarly themed Stargate SG-1 episodes, "Emancipation." Hell, it even came at the exact same point in the show's run, episode 1x03.

"Haven"
If only because this woman is supposed to be considered very beautiful, yet she has that hideous frizzy 1980s hair. (If that hairstyle ever comes back in style for women, I'll become a eunuch. )

"Justice"
Mostly because of the bad 1980s hair & scantily clad, oiled up body builders.
